I wanna know his success rate on 3rd and <2 yards. For those couple seasons, seemed like he was automatic, I’m guessing comparable and maybe better than Emmitt in that regard.
For a year or two, you couldn’t tackle him straight up. It wasn’t until a year later when defenders figured out to dive at his knees that Barber was less effective.
Dude in his prime reminded me of Walter Payton’s highlights.
On runs with 1-3 yards to go for 1st down, he was...
2007: 40 attempts for 26 First Down or Touchdown. 65% success rate
2008: 48 for 34. 71%
2009: 50 for 30. 60%
65% overall success rate
Emmitt Smith
1994 (first year with these stats): 75 for 54. 72%
1995: 76 for 50. 66%
1996: 76 for 45. 59%
66% Overall
Derrick Henry
2018: 29 for 18. 62%
2019: 43 for 27. 63%
2020: 56 for 43. 77%
69% Overall
Terrible, puts things into perspective when you see the arc of some of these guys and their careers all the way to their death, especially when it's untimely and at such a young age.
Tragic. I remember hating on the guy when he was washed up. Times like this remind you that these guys are human, it kinda makes one fee like shit for ever criticizing.
