And it’s downtown LA, which is one of the worst sections of the entire county. Utter shit hole.
Yeah, I remember just being shocked by how bad downtown LA was the first time I went there.

I knew homelessness was a serious issue, but I had no idea I'd see tents on the side of the highway outside of downtown.

I was not expecting that.

I bet half or more are professional agitators. I used to think that was tin foil hat stuff, but not anymore. They are too organized and a lot of it is just to continue the idea that it is okay for everyday leeches on society to loot stores under the guise of social justice. Fuck the lot of them.
Yeah, I'm convinced of that too.

Three whole examples in a city of 10 million people. Wow. Gee whiz, you sure won this one!

And AGAIN, one of my own staff members lives a few blocks from there, so I’ll trust her word over your bullshit “facts” since she drives through the community every fucking day.

Examples, my ass. Looting or not, this is no reason to claim there’s a “riot” or the need for the national guard. Get a fucking clue.
So if it doesn't meet your criteria for a riot then it doesn't exist? Sorry man, I ain't buying it. Those are riots.

It's ridiculous to even suggest there aren't riots going on there.

Well, we haven’t seen these idiots breaking into a federal building where elected officials’ offices are, chant to hang the vice president, kill law enforcement officers, nor provoke law enforcement to use lethal force in order to prevent rioters from breaking and entering. So there’s that.
Yeah, there's that, and "that" is basically nothing.

You have better arguments than this on the riot angle, but this is a loser for you. It's a double standard and you should say as much or you'll sound like a retard and I know you aren't one.

They certainly are now. Most of them aren’t, but I said that this is going to continue escalating because that’s what your dear leader wants. And the moment more national guard and/or military show up, the worse this will get. Because, your dear leader doesn’t want deescalation. He wants chaos to continue to “prove” that immigration is dangerous.
I rate this comment as "not entirely stupid."

Listen, I think under normal circumstances what we have seen on video is enough to call in the National Guard. On the other hand, that usually goes hand in hand with the cooperation of the local government.

If Newsome wants his crown city to burn, let it.

They should just tell all the conservatives in California to relocate the swing states. Hopefully California would do something awesome like secede.

That being said I do not doubt there is a part of Trump that wants the show (even though he hardly needs chaos to "prove" that illegal immigration is dangerous, because it unquestionably is) (the ironic part is that this is more showing that liberal idiocy is dangerous, but they prove that lots of times).

Still, while the measure of a candidate/president shouldn't be "lesser of two evils," it also is not "has to be completely evil free."

Trump is a bit of a nut, but is far more of a positive for overall conservative aims than someone like Romney or McCain was. Probably even more than Bush was if you take out the wars and social issues where Bush was far-right. And of course it's unquestionable that any of the communists the left puts up are orders of magnitude more harmful.

This isn't one of Trump's finest moments, and I probably would not do what he's doing. But it is what it is. Maybe Newsome should step up and be a real leader?

It has been an open secret for a long time now that the left funds (pays for) civil unrest. It's part of their playbook. Pay people to look angry and pay the media to cover it. They think (with some accuracy) that such events and coverage sway the opinion of leftists and centrists in the rest of the country and help them get votes and donations.

The right probably has it's own dirty secrets but it's basically a matter of record that these people go city to city to incite violence during every crisis du jour.

It's part of their playbook. And it has managed to be very profitable for some of those involved in the civil unrest/riots/protests/insurrections or whatever you want to call them.

The immigration thing is tricky for me.

My dad came here illegally in 1974 to make a better life for himself. There's next to no hope in 3rd world countries which is exactly what El Salvador is (though the country is making massive improvements with each passing year under President Bukele).

So if not for him setting off on that grueling voyage all those years ago, I wouldn't be here and neither would my family.

He was the first of 9 to make it over with the majority coming over legally in the 80s. By 1993, all of my dad's brothers and sisters were here and 7 were American citizens and 2 were resident aliens, but all were here legally (they're all US citizens now, obviously).

My dad made the most of his opportunities and busted his ass. He became a plant manager for Dow Chemical where he worked for 36 years until he retired in 2016.

He's a perfect example of the American dream and what it's supposed to stand for. He loves this country and has always been grateful for the opportunities it afforded him. And he's been a staunch Republican for as long as I can remember.

He's a productive member of society like so many others like him.

But what about all those other people who are in the exact same position my dad was 51 years ago? Good, hardworking people who just want a chance to make a decent life for themselves that their current countries can't and won't ever be able to provide?

I empathize with them.... because I know what those places are like and I know what it is to just want a decent life for yourself and for the people you love. So I can't fault anyone for doing what they have to do to get into this country, but I also understand illegal migration is out of control and needs to be addressed which is why I'm in total favor of controlling our borders.

I just can't bring myself to have that "get them the fuck out of here" sort of attitude about it though, you know?

I just count my lucky stars that my family and I are good, but I have compassion for the honest people who are being kept out and/or removed from this country.

It's tough.
I think it is possible to say that we are glad you are here while also acknowledging that what he did was prima facia wrong (of course, it was also made not illegal nunc pro tunc by Reagan's amnesty order in 1986). I also think it's possible to acknowledge that the existing system doesn't work and that it has to be stopped, while acknowledging that by sending people back you are gonna send back some good people that you'd really like to have.

But the individual cases are besides the point.

The net effect of this whole thing is harmful.
