I'm about halfway through watching it but so far it's about what I expected. Putin throwing out some revanchist bullshit to justify the war going all the way back to 1654 or some irrelevant nonsense, how large swathes of Ukraine are actually Russian (and yet somehow they've barely been able to take any land over 2 years despite the population supposedly yearning to be part of Russia), how the US supposedly turned him down several times on security deals and such.
What it comes down to is Putin wants things to be one way (he wants the world to be multi-polar as it was during the Cold War where the USSR/Russia had nearly as much sway as the US) but it's the other way and he has to deal with it.
Ultimately I think the best solution is to just let this dickhead hold onto the little land they've actually taken, end the war, admit Ukraine to NATO based on those new borders and tell him to fuck off.
Putin isn't a good guy, but I hearken back to the interventionist debates I had with like, TN Cowboy over China.
THEY ARE GOING TO INVADE TAWAIN! WAR IS COMING! THEY WANT TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
It's like, dude, you have to see it from China's point of view. Taiwan is like Cuba to them. Or Puerto Rico. They think it's part of their country just like we almost went to Nuclear WW3 over Cuba.
Of course most of what he's saying is bullshit. Doesn't mean hearing the Russian perspective isn't important.
It's amazing how the sides switch, cause like the Ron Paul supporter you used to claim to be, we can't go all war-mongery on Russia any more than we could on China back in the day.
And you know, maybe the world should go back to being multi-polar. Why do we want to keep being the world's policeman? It costs a fuck-ton.
But it also ensures dollar hegemony, so there's that.
There's something to be said that the US is using all this control worldwide so they can keep enforcing their access to credit cards and wealth without working for it.
The US became an industrial giant and economic power through hard work. Now we export moronic culture and expect to keep living the high life. No one works anymore.
And yes, whereas it was the Bush era pushing the anti-China debate, now it's the Left who needs everyone to believe that Russia is the bad guy. They are lying to us too.
