I'd take two firsts and a really good DT. The problem is these are likely to be borderline first/second round picks. There is a massive value gap between a top 15-20 draft pick and one near the end of the first round. Its a bad dice roll if you think the Packers are going down hill any time soon.

Ok, so I'm going to look at the positives or at least fake it.

Clark is good and was banged up with a foot injury last year, toe.

Micah was kind of a distraction. Podcasts and shit. I'm sure the whole locker room wasn't fond of him.

We complain about the run defense and the DT's. When we got ran over a lot of runs right at Micah and around him.

Our defense might actually improve overall as a result given how impactful DT's are, but we'll be looking for who that pass rusher will be to lead the charge vs the best passers in the league.

And let's talk about week one. Micah has never been "the guy" vs the Eagles. That distinction goes to Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb who have consistently torn the Eagles wide open.

Micah has produced stats, but not in the key situation that determines who wins or loses. This is where we need a team, and not a single star. Demarcus Ware helped show that. The offense squares on him (and Micah) and makes sure they are accounted for on each play-- especially key plays.

On the Cowboys, there's no powerful DL to hide behind like TJ Watt to where they can roam and make the key play-- they ARE the (undersized) DL. Lane Johnson is going to take Parsons out 9 times out of 10 in key situations.

This move forces Dallas to attack as an ensemble unit, and thus by definition be more unpredictable. It still takes talent, but I think Kneeland, Williams, Ezeiruaku, Fowler, and even Houston ARE talented pass rushers.

We need them all to step up and not make up Parson's statistical production, but make plays in key situations. I mean f the sack numbers, we need players with stamina in the 4th quarter making plays.

Oh yeah, and Clark is already the best DT Dallas has had in decades (how fing sad).

The feasibility of paying him now is something that I do believe the Joneses on. They went top dollar on Prescott and Lamb and then there is the dead money with Martin. You max out Parsons, you only have half a pie. Like the need for DT, they put themselves in this situation by their poor decisions and lack of timing.

I'm noticing that three of the top 5 most dead cap money teams are likely playoff contenders (and maybe further), while 3 of the bottom five teams in dead cap money are not likely to be very good.

Having to pay top players and push money into future years is part of the price of doing business for many good teams.

And since the cap is somewhat illusory (there's no real penalty for pushing dead money into the future in perpetuity), there's no reason that a creative front office couldn't make Parsons, Smith, Bland, Pickens, Prescott, and Lamb all work within the structure of our cap budget year after year.

The real problem is that we don't have a creative front office, nor do they even want to be one.

I agree that this is theoretically possible, especially since Eberflus has a history of putting together strong defenses without much star power.

I'm not even sure how much of Shaquille Leonard's success was him being an amazing talent vs. Eberflus emphasizing LB's in his scheme and putting them in position to make plays.

But yea, Eberflus has done more with less along the DL than he has here.

Maybe at the end with the training table and the negotiating tactics and all, they got sick of him (which by the way, was Parsons' and his agent's plan all along).

But beyond that, this is bullshit.

If they were so sick of him, then why did Jerry personally offer him a contract in April that would have paid him the most non QB money ever?

Why as recently as the interview with Irvin was Jerry asking Irvin to personally talk to Parsons and get him to sign?

The narrative they're putting out there, that Parsons was a problem all along, doesn't match their actions prior to about a week ago.
