I’m pleased McCarthy is gone. I mostly soured on him early this year. I’m just not under any illusion that the front office did him any favors the last few years in improving this team through free agency.

They want to be the most valuable franchise in the NFL and play moneyball at the same time.

This is the perfect storm of who gives a fuck we’re about to witness. Jerry still thinks Dallas is some attractive destination, when nobody outside of his family believes that any longer.

Personally I don't get it but apparently coaches around the league still view the Cowboys job as prestigious. I read an article in The Athletic a few days ago that had the Cowboys job ranked as the #1 opening by NFL coaches.

I think they're just looking at it from a PR/Q-rating standpoint. Coaching/playing for the Cowboys does boost your profile significantly and has helped several players and coaches land media jobs.

But purely from a football standpoint, it's a mid job at best because of all the BS and restrictions you have to deal with.

Listened to Jane Slater on the Fan from earlier. Few things:

1. Yes, from conversations Mike wanted to go. Did want to come back, but got to feeling "a certain way" when Jerry dragged on, didn't let him interview with Chicago, and the recent conversations were more about how the season ended and not his future here. Got tired of being "comfortable with ambiguity."

2. The offense we have here is still a lot of what Jason Garrett ran. Mike never really got to put in his entire system. (Which IMO goes back to Dak.)

3. She was told from the Chicago side that their interest was real, not some favor to him. New Orleans doesn't turn over their FO often and he still knows people there, too.

4. At the combine, she had Mike Vrabel and Kliff Kingsbury ask her to please introduce them to Jerry Jones. She joked with them that they were fanboys. Just shows that people do want this job, even though they know Jerry is different from anyone else.

5. Perception around the league that Cowboys are cheap? It's not perception, it's real, and yes, people around the league know it.

How sad is it that of that list, I'm hoping for Gruden?

The guy was a very good HC with 2 teams and he won a SB and actually made Brad Johnson look decent.

I know it didn't go well with the Raiders the second time around but that's one of the very few organizations in the NFL that is more dysfunctional than the Cowboys.

At least with Gruden I'd be intrigued to see what, if anything, he has left as a HC.

But Moore or Zimmer? Fuck that.

No point in even tuning in.

Jerry doesn’t need the Cowboys to win to make money he got everything he needed with the stadium deal. Concerts, college football games, hosting SBs, boxing, MMA…the list is endless. These new stadiums are a license to print money. And it shows by the way they’ve run the team since the stadium passed.
