This is what our blocking scheme needs to look like.
Was watching some DJ Giddens highlights the other day just to watch the KSU run blocking and thought the same. Lots of pulling and trapping. Can't be fun for defensive linemen not knowing where or what angles the blockers are coming from.

I guess as popular as zone blocking is, we're to that point of what's new is old and what's old is new again.

Nobody innovative is running pure zone nowadays, which is one of the issues I had with Moore. The Eagles ran plenty of gap/trap stuff this year but that was the case in year's past and I attribute it more to their OL coach.

When he was in Dallas it was almost pure zone stuff.

The zone stuff really became popular with the Shannahan Broncos in the 90's but if you look at the 49ers today they're a blend of gap and zone concepts.

The fact that Shannahan's own kid isn't running anything even close to pure zone should tell you anybody running simple vanilla zone blocking schemes is out of touch.

I like that this almost perfectly echoes what BS said about making everything look the same to the defense.

Yes, it's way too early to say, all those disclaimers. But is it me or does this guy seem like the real deal? I like how he didn't have a lot of flowery BS cliches.

I didn't like part 1 of his answer at all. Some guys are just more talented than others, and that means if you always count on your guy beating their guy, you're going to lose. A bunch.

Scheme is, in fact, the answer.

Part 2 is a good mentality to have though.

It's impossible to know how much influence he'll have in the passing game but I'm very confident that we're going to see better OL play than we've seen for the majority of the last 6-8 years, barring injury.
