If we didn't have Lance I'd sign him in a heartbeat.
People here cry every singe day about stupid moves and shitty players. And you'd sign this guy? In a heartbeat, even? A proven shitty player that would be yet another stupid move.

This guy has been given chance, after chance, after chance. And has shit all over himself in each of them. Lance might never amount to anything. But he at least has some semblance of the unknown, as he's still young with very little experience. Jones is 27 with 6 years in the league. With nearly SEVENTY games started. Pretty safe to say he's well past the unknown/upside tag.

Jesus H. Christ. Somebody make it make sense.

Not because he's good. He's shitty and we'd keep losing games, no question.

But QBs are a commodity. It's a lottery ticket. Not for us, but for a comp pick. Because teams are desperate for QBs. So on the off chance that someone signs him in FA, I'd sign him hoping we'd get any sort of comp pick for him. It's worth a gamble because he costs nothing to just sign and play for the rest of the season.

But we already have Lance, and if we were smart it's exactly what we should be doing with Lance right now.

Make enough sense for ya?

And by the way, people cry about making moves for shitty players because we stupidly give up 4ths for players that aren't worth it.

Jones is free.

Big difference.

I understand your point, but my concern is two-fold:

1. This assumes that he’d receive a contract large enough to garner a comp pick after this season. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. A decent gamble if you ignore point #2 below.

2. And, more importantly, is that when Rush continues to fuck up, people will call for Jones to come in, because he’s a better player than Rush. This could lead to accidental wins, which would be disastrous for a number of reasons.

The only thing I agree with is your last two words there.

I don’t like losing the 4th, but they are two different situations. One is young with possible upside. The other is a proven loser piece of shit, waste of a roster spot.

Big difference, indeed.

And for the record, you have bbgun liking your stance. That alone should be enough to make you reconsider.

I don't think so. He wasn't winning with the Giants.

That you aren't giving up assets for. So yes, big fat enormous difference.

So a free useless piece of shit that only takes up space.

No thanks.

And I have no problem with your opinion on that. I obviously agree he isn't good. My only issue is you came at me like my suggestion to sign him (hypothetically - I wouldn't do it in reality because we have Lance, who we should be treating the same, ie. this is a free tryout to hope for a comp pick in the offseason) didn't make sense.

You might think it's a waste of time and that's fine. But there's certainly some sense to it.

It's like playing the lottery. You might think it's a waste of time because you're not going to win. Yeah, fine probably not. But if you're already at the store buying smokes, why not throw a dollar at a lottery ticket? You're not going to miss that dollar.

There's a non zero chance that Jones played well enough to get a comp pick worthy contract. Even if it's a 6th rounder or whatever it's another pick in the quiver.

But we have Lance and what's done is done. Lance should absolutely be that guy for us now. It's silly that we're not playing him. Because there's that same non zero chance that he plays well enough to earn a contract with somebody.

Especially with Lance given how little he's played going back to college. He likely isn't good enough but he'll never improve without playing (and getting starter reps in practice).
