Orrrrrrrr...

They come out and play like a Super Bowl contender for a single game, just to get the fans of teh J's arse.
I don't think they have it in them anymore. Thanksgiving was the day to come out angry and inspired to prove the naysayers wrong and they fell flat out their faces.

As an aside, someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe the eagles control their own destiny. We wouldn't have to lose out, just losing to them would be enough.

FUCK THAT though.
No the Eagles don't control their own destiny. The Cowboys essentially hold a 1.5 game lead on them at the moment.

Edit: Disregard. I misread your post.

If we go 3-1 including losing to the eagles we finish 9-7.

If they win out including beating us, they finish 9-7.

Head to head we're tied.

I believe they win on common opponents though.

not with us dumbass Cowboy fans, we'll be here regardless of how much bullshit gets thrown our way, if we had any sense, we'd all walk away until jeri is forced to sell but instead the collective mindset is "well, nothing can be done so lets just keep taking it up the ass, go Cowboys!"

That doesn't make jeri a so called genius, it makes us idiots for taking it
That post I submitted in the Troy Aikman thread about Shango and our fan base could have been dropped here instead. Would have been a perfect fit.

On the flip side, if we beat them they're toast. They would need us to finish 7-9 to have any chance.

I know you hate the Eagles with all of your might, but they suck shit and aren't going anywhere.

They'll be one and done too.

So what do you prefer? Another year of Garrett after a one and done apperance? Or the Eagles win a meaningless division title and Garrett is fired?

Choose wisely.

If you're going to fire Garrett at 6-10 you're going to fire Garrett at 8-8. I get some people just want to see the Cowboys burn at this point but I think the logic is flawed. I don't buy that Garretts job is safe with anything short of a deep playoff run.

It's not about watching them fail miserably, it's about assuring that Jones be put in a position where it's almost impossible to bring him back.

I get that the consensus is that just making the playoffs isn't enough to save him, but I'm not convinced and I don't want to take that chance.

People are underestimating just how much Jerry wants to keep this guy around.

That's a false equivalency. Those aren't the only two choices. I think it's pretty obvious Garrett is gone unless he's in the super bowl. And the best possible outcome as a fan is we wake up this season and win the super bowl. That's not going to happen, we all know that, but that won't keep me from rooting for it. Anything short of that and I'm certain Garrett is gone.

It's the same thing you are saying about the eagles. If we make the playoffs, we certainly aren't going anywhere in the playoffs. Most likely we'd be one and done. And if that happens Garrett will be gone. There's too much smoke for there not to be a fire lurking in the background.

And to bottom line my thinking, I will never, ever, ever root for a situation where the eagles get even an ounce of positive outcome.

I know I've said this before, but man, I do seriously wish I had you back during the CFR days. It's like deja vu. You're saying the exact same thing I said way back then and got laughed off of many Cowboys boards because our fanbase is too fucking stupid/lazy to do what it would take.
likewise amigo and I wish we could spread this truth among all fans like an untreatable virus

I've been singing this song since right before Super XXX when I told my buddy we had to get tickets to see this super bowl because its the last chance we'll ever get to see the Cowboys win a Super Bowl as long as jeri is alive, maybe for us too

25 years and counting and jeri has done nothing to prove me wrong

How so? I believe we'd be tied. Their only division loss currently is to us. If they win out they'd be 5-1 in division and we'd be 5-1 also.

Unless I'm mistaken somewhere.

See, I think this totally false.

Who in their right mind thinks that Garrett would not be extended if he got the Cowboys to their first NFCC since January of 1996?

You think Jerry isn't going to consider that good enough? A man who has employed the likes of Barry Switzer, Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, and allowed Jason Garrett to be the coach for almost 10 years despite never putting together consecutive winnings seasons?

That guy is going to thumb his nose at his golden boy getting him to an NFCC?

There isn't a chance in hell that he wouldn't rush to put a new contract on the table if he got that far. Hell, I think if he gets just one singular win in the playoffs it would greatly increase the chances that he extends him.

Again, I think you are underestimating just how badly Jerry does not want to let this guy go.

For accuracy sake, we're currently on 3 consecutive winning seasons. This year would make 4 in a row, and 5 out of 6. Our only non winning season since 2014 was in 2015 when Romo got hurt.

That said, I do waiver somewhat on my certainty of Garrett's demise if we reach the NFCC. I believe it won't be enough, but I'm not 100% certain. Part of my belief in this regard is that, similar to when we fired Campo, I think the wheels are already in motion.

But regardless, you and I both know we aren't making the NFCC. And I feel like Garrett will be gone as a consequence. I think you can hear it in the words Jerry is using right now. He's been very equivocal as of late. I think Jerry honestly thought this would be a super bowl team this year and the underachieving has opened his eyes.

In that scenario, we would win the tie-breaker on divisional record, I believe.

Amen.

I'll go one better... If the team wins the division, even as bad as it is, most fans will start rationalizing that Garrett isn't that bad, we've had the winning seasons and division titles lately, etc. And that will be all the opening Jerry needs to keep his boy.

I'm just about ready for it anyway. People are convincing themselves that anything better is impossible under Jerry anyway, so go ahead and extend Jason, get a new special teams coach, and keep the mediocrity going.
