And for the record, I don't buy the Carson hype. Not saying he won't eventually be a pretty good player, but I seriously doubt he's ready to play an actual NFL game right now.

I'm skeptical of Carson also. We'll see but I don't think it's wise to just put all of our eggs in that basket.

Doesn’t matter, the team isn’t serious about winning shit with the RB and WR situation the way it is. Even if I believed Dak was good enough to win 3-4 straight playoff games, which I don’t.

But if all that stuff was resolved then bringing back Gilmore would have been one of those “stupid not to do it,” moves.

Gilmore is 34 and is probably now not the same player who played last year and almost definitely won’t be by January.

For his 4-5 million dollar cap hit, you can pay four other players.

He found his market, and it took a really long time. We need to move on and develop the next Bland

Which is what they say they have in the Seat Belt.

But they didn't, and won't. They have plenty of cap space and with a one year deal he'd be off the books and back into the cap space after the year.

He's still a good player and would have been a good signing.

They did pay four others with that money, the four bottom roster folks. In those four they figure they have more immediate and potential help than Gilmore will provide.

And they want enough cap space to sign Dak if he’ll let them. He’d be stupid to, but it’s possible

They're about $10 million under the cap right now. They could afford Gilmore and the bottom of the roster guys.

I agree to disagree on Gilmore. I’m not convinced he’s the guy we would be paying him to be come January and would rather develop a young prospect.

We have been decent in this regard the last couple of years.

That money will be better used rolled into next year to sign Micah.

This is the part you don't seem to be understanding.

Gilmore signed a 1 year contract. The money would be off the books next year.

Signing him to a 1 year deal doesn't affect next year's cap or their ability to pay Micah or anybody else.

I think what he is trying to say is that if you don't spend 10 mil of cap this year, it carries over to next year.

But if you spend it for 1 season and it's off the books after the season, it's the functional equivalent of not spending it and rolling it over. Plus you get to add a useful player for a year.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I mean it's 10 mil either now or later. if you don't spend it, you have 10 mil of the 160 you'll have to give the guy. People think of the cap in terms of one year at a time but it's not really how you should view the cap. Most NFL teams for example look at it as a 4 year cap. Then they just move the money in any given year to get under that cap.

I always understood it to mean that if we has say, 10 mil of cap at the end of the year it would roll over. Meaning we have whatever next years cap would be PLUS the extra ten mil added to it.
