The thing is it looks like Carson will be asked to start since Lewis is only a slot. This makes us a very simple defense to attack.

Between this sort of thing and the potential for Diggs to not be 100% following a major injury made it pretty likely that we'd be starting a guy like Gilmore.
And if everyone was healthy, Gilmore starts on the outside and bland can move to the slot.
I don't think there's any scenario where Gilmore would have been the 4th corner.
For a one year deal that would be off the books after the season , to me it's a no brainer to have signed him.
I believe they are currently carrying around $10 mil in space. They could certainly have made it work.

We are not that different except that when these things happen, we tend to feel sorry for ourselves. Hopefully that personality is gone on this defense. Harris is a good coach, so we will see.
