The Browns traded a fifth for someone they knew could play at a high level in the league, whereas we forfeited a 4th for a pig in a poke. That's what bothers me.

Yep.

Hell, we traded a 5th and a 6th for Cooks. We traded a 5th for Gilmore.

Why would he time and again try to win on the cheap (Henson, Hutch, Romo, Prescott, Lance) when he's only won with a true #1 qb (Troy)?
Because he never had to pay the price for the right to get Aikman. He was going to be the QB of the Dallas Cowboys regardless of Jones bought the team. He would probably be mortified if his team was bad enough to earn a top five pick. He has no experience with that and it is quite remarkable to have avoided that cycle.

That's basically what I said, if they hadn't stumbled onto Purdy Lance would probably be their starter right now. I think the main reason they traded him was probably some combination of him having trade value value vs. Darnold having none, along with him seemingly requesting a trade, I think the "announcement" that Darnold won their backup job was just PR and priming the stage for a trade.

He's not so much a washout as someone who just hasn't really gotten much time to play and develop in the NFL. I still think the most likely outcome for him is high-level backup, but gambling on a QB every now and then is a good thing.

But he should know that you're more likely to win it all with a true, first round franchise qb, not long-shots or reclamation projects.

He should know that but he doesn’t. This is a guy who thought that if he kept trying with a player like Romo and a coach like Garrett, it would eventually work.

We still have fifths and sixths to go get more guys like that.

The problem is you are acting like the book is closed and he sucks. We don’t know that. He still has upside.

I am acting like that, and I believe that based on what I've seen, and probability odds. I hope I'm wrong.
