Could be but it could also be that we have been low balling him all along. Fact is as fans we don't really know. I think Dak's agent is a pain in the ass though.
The Joneses idiotically decided to wait on the CBA before seriously negotiating with Dak. No one would have predicted this degree of ass-fuckery:
2021: ?
2020: 45m 39m
2019: 35m
2018: 33m, 30m
Watson’s 39m deal was a huge precedent because Watson is similar to Dak, not a Superbowl winner but clearly a stud coming off his rookie deal, and now it’s a year later.
Even if they ignore Mahomes’ weird deal, Dak’s side has no reason to not ask for
at least 2 mil more than Watson’s deal, a floor of 41m— if they are being nice.
An FA contract signed next year would be worth another at least 2 million more than even that, and as a result of a potential bidding war between the Bears and The Football Team even higher.
Say that bidding war would produce a 3 years 49m per year deal. When averaged with his 1 year 2021 tender of 37m it’s 4 years 184m averaging 46 per year.
So why not demand 4 years 45 million per year right now? This way he can stay in Dallas and keep selling Sleep Number mattresses nationwide.
What can the Cowboys do about it besides draft a QB top ten or even worse trade for Sam Darnold (who kicked their asses by the way)?
