Pretty much have to now. Lost a lot out of the secondary.
Well, get ready for a CB in the first round.
Well, it is too fucking late.We need to get a good DB in free agency.
I totally agree. Plus I think an elite safety has a bigger overall impact on a defense than an elite corner. An elite corner takes one offensive player out of the game. I think an elite safety can take an entire part of the field out of the game. They can impact both the run game and the passing game significantly. Plus it's easier for safeties to create turnovers because they spend more time facing the QB as opposed to a reciever.I think safety is the bigger need because Byron Jones is basically a CB in nickel/dime. Due to the injuries to Scandrick/Claiborne we basically spent all of last season with Carr, Brown, and one of Scandrick/Claiborne at CB depending on which was hurt, and then Byron, Church, and Wilcox at safety.
Right now we still have 3 CB's in Scandrick/Brown/Carroll, but then we only have Jones, who functions as a CB in most passing situations, Heath and Frazier.
I think Frazier is likely much more of a liability than Carroll. We definitely need to add depth at CB, we could even grab a potential starter if the right guy is there, but all things being equal I think I'd go safety over corner because of how we use Jones.
Lot of truth in that. A disruptive defensive line goes a long way in influencing how Quarterbacks react. It makes then think about things just a second or two longer or execute too quickly. Either way allows the defensive secondary time to adjust. It also helps the pass tush. Dallas needs to concentrate on fixing the DL primarily.I think we still need a mighty pass rush first. It can turn decent cbs into pro bowlers.
Heard the same mantra last offseason. It's cool how our defense was awful last year and instead of trying to improve it we seem to be making it worse
Letting bad starters go and replacing them with their shitty backups and an Eagles castoff is not what I call moving forward.Heard the same mantra last offseason.
You have to let the bad starters go to ever move forward.
This is true, although I feel like we should've brought back one of Carr or Wilcox just to stabilize the secondary.Heard the same mantra last offseason.
You have to let the bad starters go to ever move forward.
If the shitty backups are looked at as permanent starters then you're absolutely right. But if these turds are just placeholders until we can draft/sign better players rather than overpay guys we don't think are worth it then taking the immediate hit now as a sacrifice to building a stronger defense over the next couple of seasons is moving forward to where we need to be.Letting bad starters go and replacing them with their shitty backups and an Eagles castoff is not what I call moving forward.
