There is too much talent left to take a risk on Jack, imo. If he still there in round 3 I'd jump on it though
Agreed.

Yeah...it would be nice to get a DT, but we are so fucked right now at DE I want to make sure we address it while there are still top level guys available.
Either way they go, I'm pretty happy. I just can't believe how this has fallen. We got our RB in the first, and to have all of this talent staring at us in the face in the second is a dream scenario.

Yea although we were fucked at DE in 2014 too with nothing but what, Mincey, Selvie and rookie Lawrence coming off a broken foot and missing half the year?

That defense as a whole didn't have Lee or Byron Jones either, who are probably two of our top 4 defensive players right now, not to mention adding Thornton, although we had Melton in 2014 but he got hurt late in the year and wasn't that great overall.

My point is that now that we have Elliott to run it up teams asses we should be fine if we would just sign Jason Jones, he can be a respectable starter, draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd and then hope our 2 fool DE's don't get suspended again.

Both Crawfords should play DE the first 4 games with one these stud DT's in the middle.

Give me Robinson in the 2nd and Fuller in the 3rd. But if we want to take a flyer on Jack or Jaylon Smith, I'm all for it.

Not a lot of talk around Mackensie Alexander - whats the knock on him? I think he's a better corner than Eli Apple and Artie Burns

I just like Robinson a lot more then Dodd although I think Dodd ends up our pick. We brought him in for a visit. He fits the DE need. He is very good value at 34. Its just easy to draw a line to him.

I'm just not sure the upside is there with him as a pass rusher. More of a LE type but then again that's most of the DEs in this draft. Too bad Noah Spence did drugs. He would be perfect.

Totally agree. Like Ramsey he just didn't make a ton of plays on balls. Still I think he could have a Scandrick type career.

If I was making the picks I'd likely go Robinson, Reed or Billings just because of BPA, or in Billings case the fact that he fits perfectly, but Dodd isn't far off and DE is more of a need.

we tend to shy away from investing resources at DT - will we do it twice in the same offseason? i hope so but if we like Cook I see him being the pick

I am secretly rooting for Hackenburg.

One of the ESPN commentators said Hackenburg was the best QB, but his completion percentage suffered because he was hit so much and behind a good offensive line he would be great. I don't know much about him but do any of you agree with this? Do you think he would succeed as a Cowboy?

Pretty much how I feel although I'm not as high on Reed. I think he is more a pure NT. I think Robinson and Billings can play both the 1 and 3 technique spots. Shit Robinson could probably even play a little run stuffing DE in situations.

Ultimately I think the pick is Dodd and I'm cool with it. At some points he was rated higher then Shaq Lawson. He is a borderline first round guy. Has nice size and production for one year. We brought him in for a predraft visit and probably fits our most immediate need by holding down 1 of the two DE spots. He also fits sort of that Marinelli mold of being able to kind of slide inside on passing downs if needed. Which may be something we do once Gregory comes back or if Mayowa is our pass rushing specialist to start the season. But If I'm going DE I just prefer Ogbah. The guy has more upside. When a guy run really well and has the production to back it up I tend to go with those types of players. Ogbah's 4.6 forty at his size was impressive and he has a double digit sack season to his resume.

Stephen or Jerry did mention a day or two ago though that Crawford can always slide out to DE if we find a DT we like. It was in response to a question about being set at DT.

Hackenberg is one of the most awkward looking QBs I saw in college football. Just nothing looks comfortable for him. And his accuracy and pocket presence suffer as a result. I mean he just doesn't see the rush coming like he should and he makes throws way more difficult then they should be. The hope with him is that if you go back to what he did as a freshman maybe you can reclaim his potential. Mentally I think the guy processes things at a high level. When people say Bill O'Brien had him acting like Brady at 18 years old I think it's true. I've heard the guy talk and he knows his shit. But physically he is a mess right now.

I don't know what to think of him. His best year was early on when he had a stud like Allen Robinson to throw to. But then he regressed.

If O'Brien thought he could get Brady-like qualities out of him, he'd have become a Texan last night. Instead, they dropped major coin on an average QB.

I hope you didn't think I meant he is Brady like throwing the ball. I absolutely didn't intend that. I'm talking presnap stuff at the line of scrimmage, checking in and out of plays. That sort of stuff. Physically his accuracy and pocket presence doesn't even sniff Brady's right now. The Gruden Camp stuff is always really helpful in getting to know these QBs.

This clip sums up my opinion on him http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15042773

I know what you meant, but those Brady qualities mixed with obvious physical talent should make him an easy choice. I'm guessing he was just talking up a player for confidence purposes rather than actually believing it.

I think Hackenburg is just broken. If he'd been able to stay in O'Brien's system and played out his college career with continuity I think he'd be a first round QB. I think the circumstances at Penn State gave him the yips.
