WTF does playing with a 7-iron mean? I don't golf.

I'm skeptical of an after the fact explanation that they're holding back. I'm sure they are, but I'm guessing the Rams more or less are also.

I do buy that there would be an adjustment period for the new coaches on both sides of the ball.

You get 14 clubs... it means he was playing with only one club. Not using everything he could have used.

And BTW, you don't "golf" as a verb, you play golf. Just saying...

I do think it's funny he got pissed off at some point and had Milton uncork that bomb.

But holding back is nothing new. Some teams hold back their playbook all preseason long. Some teams go all out in preseason and open the whole bag of tricks. I honestly think the impact of either strategy is minimal at best. But it leads to some undefeated preseason teams that fans get excited over only to be horribly disappointed during the season. (I think Steve Spurrier with the Redskins was one) And it leads to winless preseasons for other teams. Basically it's a long winded way of saying don't read much into the scrimmage or preseason.

Our preseason games are going to be excruciating to watch this year.

Yeah and my preference would be to open up the playbook. Not for development purposes or that the wins somehow mean something. But preseason is great for evaluation. And if you hold everything back and just go through the motions you can't evaluate very well. You want to see if Nate Thomas is as good as you think he is or is it because he has been going up against a hobbled Sam Williams and Kneeland during practice? You want to see if Mingo is actually making a step forward for the third WR position or if it's because he has been going against Booth during practice.

I could keep going but the truth is some guys may look good in practice because they are facing shitty competition. But if you go too vanilla during preseason you don't get a good idea of what they can actually do during a game in your actual system.

And yeah I want to see Milton uncork a bomb in preseason and not go oh shit, we shouldn't have shown that afterward. That kind of seems ridiculous to me. Like you're giving something away. The whole fucking NFL knows the guy has a massive arm.

No kidding, I thought it was silly to act like a go route was some surprise.

Then again, after years of lingering Garrett influence...

For some reason, I like what Schottenheimer’s kid, Adams and Riley are talking about and the technical fashion. It is a lot more open and honest.
This guy allowed it.

I do like these assistant coaches.

Overstreet when asked what he wants to see in the games: "Ball combat. Being destructive with the football."

According to Cowboys quarterbacks coach Steve Shimko, however, Milton is fun to watch for more than just his deep ball ability. Shimko said Milton is playing the position with much more poise as he showered the second-year player with praise.

“He’s great fundamentally, his feet are getting better every day as well, but his biggest jump (has been) taking every practice rep like it’s a game, like he could really get hit,” Shimko said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic.

“That ball’s coming out, he’s finding completions, he’s really running the offense. Instead of just trying to show off his arm, which we all know he has one of the best arms in the world, he’s now playing quarterback.”
