So let's say you do trade Pickens away and save 30 mil or so on the cap by doing that. Who are you signing in free agency to make up for the loss on offense but to fix the defense? If you're telling me you're going out and signing Trey Hendrickson (The top defensive free agent) then I get it. But if you're prize signing is Fowler, fuck that. That's great, yes. We should do what the Lions are doing.
But if we don't, I'm just saying again that it's still a good trade to give a third for a first and change.
But BTW, I do think we would probably spend more in FA if Dak didn't have such a humongous cap number.

Maybe but with how quickly they extended Bland and Smith, combined with Jerry being able to take credit for getting a steal for just a 3rd, I think it's very unlikely they let him walk.Sometimes the same old song and dance leads to what happened with Parsons.
I think they're in the process of phasing him out, probably Fowler as well.
I know that's not what you're arguing. How did this become that I'm arguing for being cheap?![]()
I'm just saying that if Jerry stays cheap like he has been, I don't want keeping Pickens to mean we're the Bengals with a ton of money at WR and no defense
Letting Williams go for a few million a year would be a mistake. How do you not keep Pickens? He’s the best offensive player you have.
Just never pay a running back more than $3 mil per year and keep drafting heavy defense.
I know that's not what you're arguing.
But this is misguided because the reason why there's "no money" for the defense is because we don't like to spend money, period.
Unless it's for homegrown talent, we do not shell out big contracts and the Cowboys acquiring or not acquiring players in FA has absolutely nothing to do with the salary they pay the current roster -- they simply do not believe in being active players in the market.
So, there's no sense in saving Pickens' money for defense when we're not going to be spending it to acquire talent anyway.
Letting Williams go for a few million a year would be a mistake.
If he wants 10/year, sure let him go, but I wouldn't let him leave if the difference is 3-4/year vs. 6.
Every time I see him on the field I feel disgusted. He just isn't good. He used to be out of control but got to the QB. Now he is out of control and the injury killed his getting to the QB ability. So we are left with trash.
He played waaaaay too much.
falls for the naked bootleg every time
He played waaaaay too much.
Yes I truly hope somehow Kenny Clark decides he wants to stay here restructures his contract to something very team friendly like Lowers at a lock 'cause I know it's gonna be tough to keep all three of these guys but I like what that looks like in the middle and I think it's gonna help our young edge rushers.... Guess we'll find out against better competition coming up the next two weeks... we have the rest of the season to evaluate..
Can't wait for Quinn to pound the table for this dumbass in Washington.
He played waaaaay too much.
Dowdle has been just as productive in Carolina though and it hasn't been a fluke.I think I'd even pay 10 for javonte Williams. I don't want to go back to the Dowdles of the world. Williams has been worth it.
Yeah honestly I'm really happy for Jevonte to have the year he is having. I know the guy has been through a lot on a career that has been derailed by injuries. But I'm also hesitant to financially invest too much in a RB just knowing the short term nature of the position and history with the knee.Dowdle has been just as productive in Carolina though and it hasn't been a fluke.
10/year would be a bridge too far for me honestly, David Montgomery just got 9/year. I'd happy do 6-8 though.
