The two are nothing alike.

Parsons in his prime.

Watt? Not so much.

Good thing we drafted Taco Charlton and avoided all this drama.
My favorite thing is that we drafted Parsons for the exact role that I suggested to McClay when I asked about taking Watt and he said they wouldn't spend a 1 on an off ball LB.

You suggested it to McClay?

Man, you got connections.

How so?

Suggesting isn't the right word, but I talked to him about a year after the fact at the Senior Bowl and wanted to see what he'd say as far as if they considered him in that type of role (off-ball LB probably like a SAM who edge rushes in nickel/dime).

They didn't consider him a fit as a pure DE thanks to Marinelli so I wanted to see how much consideration they gave to something like that.

He said they wouldn't take a LB like that in the first, then turned around and took Parsons with more or less that exact role in mind 3 years later.

I think we're going to have a pretty solid defense, probably not elite for obvious reasons, but I'd be way more surprised if we were 25th than 5th.

The type of scheme he runs just kind of strikes me as sort of high floor and relatively low ceiling since it's so straightforward and no frills. He isn't going to do a bunch of exotic stuff like Zimmer did, he's just going to ask guys to line up and hustle for the most part within a pretty straightforward scheme.

The fact that we have a potentially dominant pass rush group makes me even more confident. We really just need Eberflus to figure out how to coax these guys into being average against the run and we'll be cooking with gas.

My couple of takeaways... One, basically admitting around the ten or eleven minute mark that Jerry and Stephen hired him before they had any idea who the head coach would be. (I know, NoDak, that doesn't matter...) And two, when asked about corner he went right to Elam and Bland. Didn't even mention Diggs until Werder brought him up. I just hope Revel is ready soon.

And on Eberflus himself, I didn't remember that he played for Saban at Toledo. Also Eberflus seems kind of cocky. Which is fine, I just didn't realize that.

I think he framed CB that way because Revel and Diggs are injury question marks and they aren't totally sure when they'll be back practicing, not because Bland and Elam are the top two guys.

I do think they're totally confident in Elam as a starter though.

Elam played well last year. He’ll need help vs the best WRs, though.

Yea he's fine as your third best CB, but if you're counting on him as a top 2 guy you'll probably be disappointed.

If both Revel and Diggs are ready to go by October we'll have a very strong group, the only issue will be if both of them can't be counted on for an extended period.
