Good thing we didn't just trade a 3rd for a WR who has the same agent.

Oh, wait.
Yeah which is sad because the one thing I actually am excited for this year is having Pickens and Lamb together. I really think that's going to be a nightmare for defenses. It's depressing to me that it's like a one year thing.

In about 12 days he'll sign a deal worth 45 mil per year with everything guaranteed. :lol

Then after making Smith the highest paid OG in hx our roster will be 5 players at max contracts at position, players on first contracts, and strike era level talent.

So here's my question, how would you guys handle this? Let's take Jerry being a despicable character out of it for a minute, because we all agree on that but it's not relevant here. Would you just pay all these guys top or near-top contracts and make do around them? Or draw the line somewhere with one of these guys?

I get that we could do what Philly is doing in pushing everything forward, but that's a little easier to take when you have a totally loaded team that's (allegedly, Geng) recently won a title.

Just curious what you all would do.

I'd seriously look at moving Parsons but that's not just for salary reasons.

Assuming we keep Parsons I'd do all the extensions, and then do whatever it takes to make it fit for the next 2-3 years with the assumption being that we'll be getting rid of Dak and moving on to a rookie contract QB within about 3 years.

So make it fit for the next 2-3, probably have one bad cap year when they clear out Dak's contract, and from there on out you have flexibility with the rookie contract QB.

We already had that once and they didn't do anything with it.

Can I go back in time or am I stuck with the current shit sandwich Jerry has put us in?

I would have actually been negotiating months ago of it were up to me. Not basically been sitting in a pissing match with no real negotiations. But if I'm handed the current shit situation I'd have to seriously consider trading Parsons. That or I roll the dice and see if he shows up. Caving with some biggest non QB deal now feels like a loss in every way possible. But we have boxed ourselves into that corner. And in the end you spend more money and get a player who isn't really ready for the season.

As much as I hate it I would have to draw the line with Smith unless he is willing to move to LT. Offer a reasonable contract but a guard is easier to find and you just cant pay everybody.

Yea because they're cheap fucks that aren't desperate to win, but the question was what I'd do if it was me.
I read the thread backwards and didn't see that it was a reply to CL question. Carry on.

But what about not just Micah, but with Tyler Smith and maybe Bland (though I don't think Bland would require anywhere near a top of market deal like the others). The bigger picture the next few years.

I personally would do like @Simpleton said and try to get out from Dak's contract and let that be my cap relief. But I know some love Dak more than I do.

And the easiest way to get out of Dak's deal would be trading Parsons for a huge haul of picks, allowing us max flexibility to do whatever we want in the next two drafts if a QB opportunity arises.

It's not just about getting out of the deal though, it's more about an opportunity to set things up for the next 10-12 years.

I mean I cut Diggs and sign Bland. You're really just swapping contracts and older player for younger player. To me that's an easy move.

I also resign Smith. Basically an extension for Smith lowers his cap number for 2026 where Zach Martin is still counting like 16 mil against the cap. When Martin's money phases out, Smith's kicks in.

People get way too worried about the cap. I think there is a big lack of understanding of how the cap can be worked.

You can afford these guys. Its just a question of if you want to afford these guys. But much like the Walker trade, I have to consider making a franchise changing trade with Parsons at this point. We have let it linger too long and need to change the way we handle contracts. So I'd consider trading him and doing the smart thing and get ahead of the curve on guys like Bland and Tyler Smith. And maybe we can use some of the freed cap to hang on to Pickens depending on how this season goes.

They should be paying players like Philly. Get in front of it, extend early if you know you are keeping the player.

Regardless of how the cap works, paying superstars less by extending early means more money for other players.

The way they do it by stringing it out to stay in the news cycle and having to pay more is beyond retarded.

Absolutely. Jerry definitely has a burr under his saddle about this agent, for whatever reason.

Exactly. I suspect Mulugheta took whatever they talked about as almost an opening offer and not an agreement. Then he personally gets butthurt that he wasn't doing all the negotiating himself, convinces Micah that Jerry is trying to screw him over, etc. And now Micah is sort of caught in the middle of this pissing match.

Telling Jerry to “stick it up his ass,” probably didn’t endear him to the Jones’.
