That's all nice to say but Zimmer has been successful in the NFL a long time. I doubt he was doing anything deeply flawed.
No but perhaps Odighizuwa was not deployed as much as his skill set dictated. That does not mean it was a shit system.

Totally possible. I think Everflus knows how to work with a great three tech. Now we have to see if Osa can be one.

I think he can be good, not great. He's not a freak like Donald and he's regularly going up against guys who outweigh him by an average of about 35 lbs.

Donald is one of the best DT's, and probably one of the best defensive players of all time though.

I think Osa could make a Pro Bowl or two, or at least play well enough to be deserving of making one, and that would still make him one of the best DT's we've had in the last 20+ years even if he's never going to be a monster stuffing the run.

I mean Donald is all timer great. One of the best ever. Osa doesn't have to be that spectacular for me to define him as great.

Yeah, these fucking guys and some of their retarded evaluations. Did any respectable evaluator have this guy as a second rounder? FFS, if they did, let me know so I don't waste time reading them.

It was a clear reach at the time, I think most had him as a mid/late 3.

I think he's a bit underrated by the fanbase though, he's not completely incompetent and could probably fill in as a starter for a few weeks, he's just nowhere near worth the pick they spent on him.

I think it was a bit of a McCarthy special too.

He was drafted as a blocker, but god damn, for what?

Who knows, probably just feel good offseason vibes, but I appreciate that Schottenheimer is willing to look outside of his direct experience for ideas and ways to improve.
I think Schotty has been a breath of fresh air. I just wonder how long that will last once this team faces some adversity. Suddenly the ping pong table isn't a good thing, it's a distraction. We have seen this before. The players love everything right now. But a lot of what he is doing will become a point of problem if things don't go well.

Yeah, one common theme (from enough different people that it's probably true) does seem to be that there's more youthful energy than in a long time. Which makes sense because most of our coaches have been older except for Garrett, and he was a stuffy 70-year old bitch at heart. Definitely seems like Schotty is trying the Pete Carroll school of thinking.

Not that that's the sole answer -- I'm sure Gus Bradley tried that was in Jacksonville and it didn't work.

Another note, apparently Irvin is a convert now after being so critical before. Not a surprise as we know what a homer Mike is. But he did talk on his podcast about someone getting chewed out for screwing up, so maybe it's not all fun and games.
