It's easy to forget about it now, but Ferg was really good two years ago. There's a reason everyone was so excited about him. I don't know what happened last year, but maybe that's the real Turd and last year was a fluke.

Wait and see, I guess.
I think he's the 2023 version, which is a good to very good, but not elite TE.

Similar to Schultz, maybe a little more dynamic, but not someone I'd be interested in extending unless he took a solid discount.

If he'd take something like 3/24 right now I'd do it, but I doubt he would.

Not saying he was super special, but I think he was better than Schultz. He was almost like a mini-Kittle, with that half-crazy demeanor out there. Remember that Sounds from the Sidelines where Sam Williams was joking that he wasn't really white. :lol

But was that the real him or not, I don't know. I'd hate to offer him a deal right now and have another Jarwin situation. If he blows up this year and wants too much money, he can walk.

I think the concussion last year had more of an impact than anything, add in the Dak injury and the general dysfunction and I think that explains things.

We'll see, but I think the 2023 version is much closer to what he is.

I do, too. But I'd wait and be sure.

Call me crazy, but I wonder if that influencer girlfriend/fiancee is a bad influence. on him. We've seen it before. :(

Last year was mostly on the front office, IMO.

It was hard for anyone to excel under last year's conditions.

The main thing I took away from last year is that CeeDee is truly a special player. Hands down the best #88 since Irvin.

Yeah I agree with all of this. But my only concern is that the concussions become more of a chronic problem. I think the rest will be ok. And honestly if he can be the 2023 version that's great. That team wasn't exactly loaded with weapons and he was basically a borderline probowl TE that year. If we can get that form back with Pickens and Lamb on the outside I think we could be very good in the passing game. And while I hated the thought of Jalen Tolbert as our #2 WR. I think he could actually be a very nice third receiver. Sort of Cedrick Wilson in 2021 type of player.

And honestly Schoonmaker started to look pretty functional last year as well. Nothing exciting (He never has been even in college) but someone you can put out there and catch the ball and block.

I'm really not worried about TE at all. I wouldn't even be surprised if Spann-Ford was serviceable if we had to play him. I actually like his upside more than Schoonmaker.

Only thing about the concussion is it was later in the year when Rush was already playing.

But yeah, the whole team was such a mess last year, maybe it's hard to judge anything. Thanks again, Jerry.

The offense was a mess from the start last year. But we also made Zeke do zero to earn what amounted to the starting role at RB. I also think Ferg played better early in the year with Dak compared to later in the year with Rush. But ultimately a run game is probably what will help Ferg the most. A lot of what he does is built off play action. And when you have a running game featuring Zeke, that play action becomes sort of ineffective. Especially when you're not in a reasonable down and distance to make the play action effective at all.

Ferguson isn't some sort of a great route runner. He is a catch the ball short and plow people over guy on a bootleg. Or run the seam and use his size and hands to catch the ball over the defenders.

Parsons too really with how he played and elevated the defense after he came back.

Thats why I was really hoping they'd add pieces who could take the pressure off those two and complement them, and I think they did in Pickens and Ezeiruaku.

I think it was earlier in the season, or it might've been his knee, but he got hurt early in the year and then again later.

So yea, I think the injuries and all the other dysfunction was just a bit too much.

When does a player ever say, "Naw, I don't think this new stuff is going to work. I liked the last guy better."

And don't get me wrong, Eberflus is a damn good defensive coordinator too. So I'm sure he has some good scheme to him. But I think players are sort of narrow minded. His scheme might help Osa make more plays but he might not be looking at the bigger picture of the defense and how that may impact the other players. A DT for example flying up field may help the DT make more plays but it's also going to hurt the LBers behind him ability to make plays.

I think the answer with Ferguson is pretty simple. He's both versions of himself.

He's good when the talent around him is good, and he's bad when the talent around him is bad.
