I mean, the Shitskins made the NFCC last year with Fowler as their best edge rusher and not much else at that spot,

I think they have a much better defensive coach than us, especially when it comes to generating pass rushes.

They also made the NFCC in a really weak year for the conference.

I wonder if they'll put a claim in.
I doubt we will but the way I look at it is on one hand you have a dude who was a first round pick, has motivation issues and has moderately improved at best from a dumpster fire to below serviceable. You have Okoye who is already a way better run defender than Mazi who has had dramatic improvements in the NFL over a short period of time. A guy who the Ravens honestly I think wanted to keep on the roster but just have a ton of depth and do a great job of drafting. If I'm going to have a fifth DT, give me Okoye. A 6'6" raw monster at 23 years old over Mazi.

But that's just me. You've been in the league for 2 years now as a first round pick. If someone on the street is better and younger, than it is time to move on.

They are 12th. There are some other guys too but they have to be committed to getting rid of Taco Mazi at some point. Maybe he gets the same treatment Jaylon Smith got where it took Quinn demonstratIng how poor of a scheme fit he was so they finally cut his made man ass.

The only thing that gives me hope is Schottenheimer saying they're going to watch the wire. Normally I would just assume we like our guys.

You would, most of us would, but Jerry? No way.
I do not think Jerry Jones has any input on the players and has watched zero film. I dunno if McClay or some other nepo-lackey gathers it for Goof Son to partner with Cap Waiter Boi before the old man signs off.

Honestly, pro personnel has never been a strong suit in the post-Johnson era. Most of the input are cheap coaches pets from previous stays.

It's not about the Ravens player, though. It's about Mazi being a first round pick and Jerry not wanting to be embarrassed about cutting him.

I doubt Jerry would cut Mazi for Prime Vince Wilfork.

Oh, I think Jerry has input. No, he's not watching film and he's not scouring waivers or anything, but I believe he has people like Mcclay who watch this stuff and bring recommendations to Jerry and Jerry makes the call (likely often in conjunction with Stephen).

For me it is a little about the player. We aren't good at DT. At least not in the big boy sense. It's not like we cut a really talented promising DT to keep Mazi on the roster. Had we cut Winfrey to keep Mazi it would be a different story. But we need to get better at DT and Mazi is the weakest link on the current depth chart. So the easy answer is, I'm looking for someone who can be better than Mazi.

Okoye is a name I throw out there for multiple reasons. But if you need to stop the run throw Okoye and Toia at DT, Winfrey and Thomas at DE and you give yourself a pretty damn good chance of allowing your LBers to make a stop on a third and short or whatever.

Mazi getting blown off the ball in the same role makes zero sense. Now maybe there is a better name than Okoye out there. I have no idea. But the Ravens + 6'6" 370 pound dude who can move at least gets me excited. I haven't looked at all the cuts to see if there is a better option. But we played the Ravens in preseason and we damn sure should know this guy's name. And a Ravens team that was just way more physical than us.

All true, but still... Jerry.

I know, in Jerry's mind he is a first round talent still. But in my mind by year 3 you're no longer the talent you were before the draft. You're the talent you showed in your first two NFL seasons and training camp. Who gives a shit where you were drafted at that point.

Did they even try to get the big DT from Ravens or they just worried about scrub shitbag CBs?
