Yep, the writing is on the fuckin wall. I think a trend is starting where smart teams will take a chance on a talented wash out, pay them a reasonable salary and be able to spread the wealth around and build a real team instead of having a few stars and a bunch of fucking bums and rookies.

We'll see. So far, not a single one of them has won anything of note with that approach. It could be that all teams are doing with that approach is creating a glass ceiling for themselves.

The last 10 super bowl winning QBs:

  • Mahomes
  • Mahomes
  • Stafford
  • Brady
  • Mahomes
  • Brady
  • (No game played as far as I know. I think there was a strike or meteor or something)
  • Brady
  • Peyton
  • Brady

And now we're back to QBs that take below market value to help their team.

Really though, when I heard Belichick on Inside the NFL he kind of sounded like he would go for the Shatner plan. He talked about how Mayfield and now maybe even Darnold just needed a few years to figure things out and find their footing.

Maybe you can't win a Superbowl like that -- it's hard to beat Mahomes no matter who you have -- but I think I'd rather try that than paying a tier 2 guy top dollar and hamstringing the rest of your team.

I do think that's what should be happening.

If I'm Dak for example, when I'm done playing would I rather have made let's say $500 million in career salary and no super bowl, or maybe $400 million and a super bowl?

$100 million is a lot of money, but you're still filthy rich at $400 million. I'd far, far rather have a much better chance at a super bowl than an extra $100 million that I'll never spend.

I agree, as long as your owner is willing to spend that money. I'm not sure our is. Because ultimately you may be giving up 100 mil over your career but that money is presumably going to your teammates. Guys that you want to play with and who will ultimately make your quality of life during your career better. Do you want 500 mil and have your brains bashed in for 10 years because you have no help, or do you want 400 mil while having all day to throw a football with great protection. Totally a hypothetical but I'd rather be able to enjoy those 10 years than to be miserable.

They didnt spend money when Dak was on his rookie contract. They just brought in dollar store trash.

If I had to guess, Dak is supporting A LOT of folks from back in the trailer park which is why he is going for every dime.

Or, he just wants every dime like most people. Especially with agents, financial advisors, etc. in his ear.

Nobody here is going to go to their boss and say that they want a pay decrease.
Huge difference in a jobber making 75k or whatever compared to a guy sucking every million he can out of a limited pool of money.

I hope everyone just rolls their fuckin eyes whenever Dak says winning is most important to him.

Then tell me why nobody but Brady has done it?

You hear other players say "I'm going to get mine" all the time.

Yeah or they say "this is just a business"

The NFL is also unlike other job markets because of profit sharing and the salary cap. If you take less money ultimately that money isn't just going in the owners pocket, it's just going to a fellow player.

On the other hand random guy working at local hardware store is really just giving the owner more money if he takes less. Doesn't really make much sense. It's more akin to a CEO bypassing a 100 mil bonus to spread the wealth among employees.

Why? Can he sense it if I roll my eyes while reading about it on the internet?

Will my acting like a dramatic little school girl be enough to cause him to take a pay cut?

He's set to earn over $400 million in his career by the end of his current contract, and that doesn't include endorsements.

He could make half that and support every single person he's ever known.
