Yeah, I don't think you're wrong.

In fact, Juanyeh Thomas said something to similar effect in regards to the onside kick he returned for a TD vs Washington.

He said something like he knew he should have just gone down but saw daylight ahead of him and decided to return it.

It's quite possible that's what happened tonight too.

That's the perfect comparison.

And when Thomas returned that I immediately called him an idiot too.

And that's exactly what I think 27 was thinking, that he has a chance to make a play. He probably knew better but got greedy.

Yea, you kinda have to look at context with things like this, it could be a fluke or it could be shitty coaching, or any number of other things.

None of this is happening in a vacuum. I also wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy roasted his ST's coach after that game, to act like it's 100% on the player is idiotic.
Something like that IS 100% on the player. I GUARANTEE you that a professional coach has went over this with his players. But they have zero control once the ball is snapped.

Anyway, I get the tank/draft people, I just hate that now the rest of the year will be a total shitshow death march to the end with all the negativity, all the coaches getting fired, and Jerry's inevitable coaching change circus where he could hire the Jonathan Mingo of coaches but we get to hear his carnival barking sales pitch about it.

I think maybe when you get older you don't feel as good about just flushing a quarter of a season.

I'm sure they've gone over it but I'd guess they haven't drilled it into their heads repeatedly as other ST's coaches do. Or maybe they have but just not with this specific player because there's moving parts with the ST units.

We won't know for sure but I blame the coaching as much as the player, because even if they are a complete moron who can't help themselves (very possible), the coaches are still the ones putting them on the field.

Sneaking in as the 7 seed or staying on the fringe of contention never meant much to me. Staying competitive is nice because it helps judge what you have for next year but I don't think there's anything that would happen over the next 3-4 games that would be Earth shattering compared to what we've already seen.

I feel good about the defense overall going into next year assuming they'll make a few additions, we seem to have some promising youth on the OL, Dowdle is a nice RB2, we need more weapons on offense, we still need more size on the DL, etc.

Most of that was already known and I don't think much of it would've changed over the next few games whether they meant something or not.

I almost feel bad for him. Almost.

He played well when we were down CB's early in the year but this is a perfect time to make an example of a guy doing something moronic and cut him.

It'll never happen though, Jerry will talk about putting his arm around his shoulder or some such nonsense.

I don't think rooting for losses for draft position is much of a thing anymore. Even if we lose out the absolute best case scenario is picking at 7 given how many horrendous 2-3 win teams there are, which I think is unlikely even if it did happen because our winning % is so high. We'd still probably be at 8 or 9.

Based on remaining schedules we seem to be locked into about the 9-15 range and in that case it really doesn't matter that much unless we somehow jumped up to like 5-6 and had a shot at Carter.

It'll be much easier to stomach picking Jeanty at 13 than 7.

Oh, I don't think we were ever making the playoffs, and we'd get crushed if we somehow did. We were never beating the Eagles or probably the Skins, to name two. But I've gotten to where I like seeing undermanned teams beat ones with better talent, and this is one we had a chance at.

I personally would just rather win games like this and keep it going another week then shut it all down from here out, which is probably what will happen. This probably takes the wind totally out of our sails for every remaining game and they aren't even worth watching. I mean, watching Lance throwing picks and forcing balls to Jonathan Mingo? No thanks.

It's 100% on the player.

As soon as he touched it I literally said "oh no" out loud. I knew immediately it was incredibly dumb.

Nobody coached me about it.

You're either dumb or you're not.
It’s a split second situation, so I get it’s easy to make a bad decision especially if you’re new to the unit and don’t have it drilled into you.

You are reacting in those situations more than thinking, so the drills are important.

If that guy was on the unit because Mingo kicked off the usual starter from the active roster— like Lab I’m looking at Jerry

I get it but would you rather risk McCarthy coming back next year?

If we won tonight we could've easily been 8-7 going into the Eagles game with a great shot to finish 9-8.

McCarthy is a fine HC and kinda got fucked by the FO coming into this year, but he should've been fired after last season and the team needs a fresh start.
