Cowboys' Jerry Jones Ripped by NFL Agent; 'I Think the Game Has Passed Him By'

This is the key quote and it's exactly what most of us have been saying for a while: "I don't think they want to win above all," the agent said when ranking the Cowboys as the most unstable franchise in the league. "Jerry (Jones) wants to turn profits and make headlines."

It's the main reason I don't really care as much anymore, I just don't believe they're desperate to win. Of course they want to win but it's not their top priority.

Both Jerry and Stephen want to maximize revenue of course, although most of that is baked in, while Jerry wants to showboat in the media and run his mouth, and Stephen wants to tinker with his little bullshit cap games.

Winning comes after those priorities.
That quote could’ve been from 20 years ago. :lol

GTFO with this "anonymous" BS, Jerry the horrible GM has got to be the lowest of the "low hanging fruit"... if you're gonna take pot shots the man, at least come up with some new material (lord knows there's enough source material out there) and FFS be man enough to own it.

How does something pass you by when you never had grasp of it in the first place?
Well, they at least used to be negotiating forces. When they set their sights on a guy, they could talk him into coming. Think La'el Collins or La'Roi Glover.

We never even import impactful players anymore. When was the last exciting non-draft addition?

Very much agreed.

And the team's management being apathetic in conjuncture with the league turning to shit in general, just doesn't have me caring nearly as much anymore.

Maybe it was because everything is new as a kid, but the league in the late 80s and early 90s seemed so magical. Guys like Marino, Aikman, Montana, just had this air of being giants about them. Teams like the Cowboys, 49ers, Bills, even lesser teams like the Giants, Dolphins, just had this mystique.

Is it oversaturation? Is it that the rules have changed? Is it that the players are softer? Is it that roster turnover is too frequent? I dunno. Maybe a combination of all of it. The game doesn't have the magic and intrigue that it used to.

That's true, he used to at least be a salesman. I also don't remember contracts being this difficult either. Tony Romo, Tyron Smith or whoever. Guys just got signed, signed big mega long term contracts and we moved on. Now it's like pulling fucking teeth to the last minute to actually get a contract done.

And I assume that's where the "the game has passed him by," bit comes from.

It's like he's out of touch with how these contracts get done. How to manage the cap and keep your players.

Maybe things were just different as a kid. But I agree, it doesn't have the same feel that it used to. Maybe it's nostalgia. Hell I don't know but the league has changed so much since then. I also think the short term nature of the NFL in its attempts for parity have created a different feeling as well. It no longer feels like teams built of core superstars. Instead you may have one superstar and then a bunch of interchangeable pieces. A great defense might be there one year and gone the next.

Free agency and the salary cap changed everything.

True, but even still I don't think it's a case of the game passing him by.

I just think Jerry doesn't care anymore whereas back then it was still a thrill for him to personally acquire big name players and go through the whole negotiating song and dance.

Now? He couldn't give two shits about that stuff which is why Stephen handles it all.
