Why so quick to write him off? The UNC stank?
I might be a little harsh, but the guy looked clumsy and weak in preseason and he was never heard from again. Most of our draft class last season was like that too but still.

See and I thought he looked a little sloppy but was very effective. He blocked his guy even if it wasn't always pretty. I assume the sloppy can be cleaned up.

He didn't look like a Ball or Waletzko who just couldn't block their guy. Waletzko being better than Ball.

Both of those guys suck. How Ball has survived this long shows you the doglike devotion we have to our bad draft picks.

It's not that he is over paid that bother's Dak but Dak strikes me as a guy who wants everyone to love him. And you won't get much love from fans when you demand to be the highest paid NFL player unless you're Patrick Mahomes and actually are the best player. Some players don't give a shit what fans think. But Dak, I think he absolutely does. But I also think his agent controls these things far more than Dak.
I've read reports, don't know how reliable, that the size of Hurts' contract screwed him up in the head.

Well Hurts signed a 6 year extension. His cap number doesn't even go past 50 mil til like the last year. Even that is a manageable 55 mil in 2028 (when presumably QB will be getting probably 70 mil deals). People get way too wrapped up in the overall numbers. They forget that there are actual practical numbers involves.

His cap hit for 2024, 14 mil. If Dak wants to do a deal that looks like that I'd happily do it.

Rich Eisen rumor at the combine: Vikes might be interested in Lance if they lose Cousins.

Hypothetically if this was true, what would you ship him away for? I doubt that it is true but I hate to say it, I think I would do it for a fourth. Which kind of seems sad and a waste. I'd jump for joy at a third rounder. Anything less and I'd rather have him as a backup and let the chips fall where they may.

Of course if Dallas was actually willing to trade Dak, I'd like to have Lance here to see what he has. And at that point we would have more picks and I wouldn't hopefully have to worry about a fourth rounder.

If Jerry calls Dak's bluff and doesn't extend his contract, I don't see him trading Lance.

No, at that point I ask Dak if he would like to go play in Minnesota for a couple first round picks. Or Denver. Or Pittsburg. Or wherever honestly. Because if Dak doesn't want to be here long term, lets get the process moving so everyone can be a lot happier in 2024.

Minny would be better off keeping the picks and re-signing Cousins, who's in that second tier with Dak. Of course, we have ripped off Minny before. :unsure

Supposedly the sticking point is Cousin wanted his contract guaranteed again in 2024 and 2025 at minimum. My guess is at 35 years old and coming off an injury the Vikes were scared to do that. Dak is 30 and not coming off of an injury. And I don't know that he has the same type of demand.
