Y’all should be thinking John Kuhn when talking about Luepke.

I am disappointed that Leupke didn't get more of a chance to run the ball with our big lead. Especially considering Rico was hurt and didn't play in the 2nd half.

Fix that shit, Fat Mike.
Well, let's hope that this injury turns out the way it did when Roy Williams got hurt in 2009 and forced us to go to Miles Austin.

We were all clamoring from Miles Austin to get more looks but it wasn't until Roy Williams was forced to miss a game that the coaches started him and they never looked back.

I would love if we had a similar result this time with the running back situation.

Time to see how long it takes Zach Wilson to piss down his leg tonight.

What about Bison Lance ?
What about him? I wasn't pimping him saying we needed to have him on this team. We weren't even close to being in the right position to draft him. And no, I would not have wanted to trade up for him. Especially not for what the niners paid to do so.

Lance has QB skills. He's an elite athlete. What he doesn't have is a lot of experience. He should have been sat down for a year or two to continue to develop. But he was thrown into the fire and had to learn on the fly. Even with that, he hasn't had a lot of games under his belt before being injured. Has his confidence been ruined? Who knows. The brain is a funny thing with professional athletes. Maybe he bounces back, maybe he doesn't.

Maybe sitting and learning for a year or two will get him back on track. He's still young as hell. If he doesn't work out, oh well. I still think it is worth a 4th round pick (and probably a late one, at that) to find out. Not much lost. But if he does work out? Awesome. Either we benefit from his play, or we benefit from trading him.

I remember Alstott being a hammer running the ball, but not much of him as a receiver. Was he good at it? I honestly don't remember.

And I know he was there the same time as Warrick Dunn. Did he lead block for him? I don't remember that, either.
I don't honestly remember. But I do remember them using both guys as a thunder and lightening approach.

Yeah Alstott was a tank that just rolled over guys. I don't see that in Leupke.
Leupke has some running power. But I wouldn't say he's on the level of Alstott in that regard. He's kind of a tweener back, imo. Not quite as quick as a lead back, but faster and more nimble than your traditional FB.

He'll never be a feature back. But he's a guy that can carve out a long, productive career if he finds himself in the right situation. I hope that's with us.

Juszczyk is actually the back I thought of when we got him. But he doesn't really run the ball. So not sure that's a great comparison either.

I told you guys this about Leupke since his senior year at NDSU. That we needed him.

Maybe now you guys will accept me for the football savant I am, and never again question anything I say. :art

One small thing, tho. He wasn't just a short yardage and redzone specialist in school. The dude would straight up dominate games all over the field. I realize it's a pretty big jump from NDSU to the NFL. But the guy has skills we should be using. He is a lot better receiving back than people realize. And we're seeing he has a little wiggle in the running game, too. And he can block.

I hate to compare him to The Moose. So I won't. There may never be another Moose. But I think Leupke can be the best FB type player we've had here since then.
Alstott vibes?

It's hard to come up with a decent comparison. Leupke isnt your traditional FB, where he's mainly just a blocker. And he isn't your running FB like an Alstott or Riggins, either. But really, were those guys actually FBs? It said so on the roster, but they were just big, overgrown RBs, really. It was pretty rare to see them do actual FB things, like lead blocking.

Fuck it. I know I said I wasn't going to do it... But I am. He's more like Darryl Johnston. He can't block as well as Moose, (who can, really?) but I think he can run better. And if given the chance, he might be just as good if not a little better as a receiver, too. But until proven otherwise, I'll give them a push in the receiving department, if not a slight edge to Moose just because we haven't seen Leupke do it on the pro stage yet.
