Ok, now it's time to bitch that we have to play the 49ers on the road on a short week in the playoffs. Total horseshit.

Meanwhile we are probably the only team standing between the 49ers or Eagles fucking playing in a Superbowl.
Or the Giants!

I don't think that takes anything away from what he's accomplished.

He's won double digit games in consecutive years and has taken us to the playoffs in consecutive seasons under the Jones family leadership -- that makes him the ONLY Cowboys head coach to do that since the 90s.

He just led the team to their first playoff road win since January of 93.

If you're not sold on Mike McCarthy after all that, then you haven't been paying attention to what's been going on in Dallas for the last 25+ years.
McCarthy is a very good coach.

What I'm not sold on is the underlying culture of the team to gut out three or four straight playoff wins.

You can't just look at how far we went in the playoffs, it's the fact that we went to the playoffs back to back for the first time in 15 years, the fact that we went back to back double digit wins for the first time in almost 30 years, and of course the first road playoff win in 30 years.

It took Garrett 4 years to get a playoff win after three straight 8-8 seasons and every time we went to the playoffs under him we folded the next season.

McCarthy had a throwaway year in 2020 due to the Dak injury and then did something the next two years that hadn't been done in 15 and 25+ years respectively.

He had to win tonight to validate a lot of that in my opinion but now that he has, he's at the very least deserving of some more respect and seeing out his contract unless we completely go in the tank next year and go like 6-11 or something without any major injuries to Dak.
I think everyone agrees McCarthy is better than Garrett, that's not really the discussion.

I've never said otherwise.

Any criticism I've levied at McCarthy has generally been, look at this near-Hall of Fame coach, even he can't fix the stupid in Dallas. What chance did an average head coach have?

Of course not -- that's always the challenge in Dallas.

But he has accomplished more than any coach under Jerry Jones not named Jimmy Johnson or Bill Parcells.

Yes, I know Barry Switzer won a SB but I give him zero credit for that.

Every other coach has been average at best, and not all of that was their fault, but still.....the point is that the culture in Dallas makes it extremely difficult, maybe even impossible, to win big. And yet despite that, Mike McCarthy has accomplished something that a lot of us didn't think was possible.

So am I ready to put us in the Super Bowl? No.

But I do think this is the most legitimate chance we've had at real success in really really really long time, and that is thanks to the incredible job Mike McCarthy has done.

I can't really enjoy it.

Yeah, on one hand, playoff wins are few and far between these days. It's nice.

But once you have that big goose egg hanging up there in front of you in relation to Super Bowl wins for 30 years, or hell even Championship game wins/appearances, the wild card games don't mean quite as much.

And I'm going to soak it all in at least for today after all the negativity that was everywhere.
Fuck the negativity, it's mostly just a swirl of social media bullshit. The freaking out after the Skins game was just preposterous, performative bullshit.

At the end of the day the team went 12-5, one of those losses was with Rush, one was in a mostly meaningless game at the end of the year, and two others were in OT in games where we were up double digits on the road.

This is a good team, it's unlikely they'll win the Super Bowl because that's how the NFL is and the team seems immature emotionally, but it's still a good team. A definite top 5-7 team in the league with a mostly young core and a QB mostly in his prime.

The history is what it is and none of us are going to be happy with a 2nd round playoff exit but in the grand scheme of what is realistic in the NFL, the future is bright and we're in good shape going into the next 2-3 years.
