If.

You're right. We should all be panicking.
Yes, that's the scenario I'm complaining about, if they don't actually spend that 1st when we're already solid at the position then obviously I won't complain.

Yeah I'm not saying a first round corner at all. I'm just talking about what we have done up to this point that makes people think we are corner whores. We have actually done well drafting them. The problem is we haven't wanted to pay them (which I'm great with until Diggs is ready, he is worth it). Chido is still a good starting NFL corner. Byron Jones got a big contract. Lewis has been a very good slot for us. Diggs is a stud. Brown has been a solid starter.

Wright and Joseph are the only ones that I'm not so sure about. I'm luke warm on Joseph. Wright is just trash that we panicked and took because we had an extra pick.

And just to be clear I absolutely would not trade for a corner. I'm not sure I'd really trade for a defensive player right now outside of a DT but even then I'm not ready to give up a first for a guy I'm going to have to pay 20 mil to soon unless it's a 5-10 sack a year guy.

Why would you say we panicked? He has elite length and his measurables fit what Quinn looks for at the position. A reach, sure. Not sure I'd say it was a panic when we all would think a guy like Quinn has earned the benefit of the doubt

Because he wasn't projected to go nearly that high and frankly he has looked really bad every time we have seen him in preseason.

And then we probably passed up a better prospect who fits Quinn's mold exactly in Woolen because we already had a glut of depth there.

If we end up using a 1st on a CB this year I'd call 3 second rounders, 2 third rounders and a 4th rounder over 5-6 years, plus a 1st, exorbitant, yes. And that's not even including God knows how many 5's and 6's on the position.

And despite what you want to say about Jones being a safety/CB hybrid, he was a Pro Bowl CB for us in 2018 and 2019, right in the middle of us spending multiple 2's/3's on the position.

The last time we took a DT in the 1st was literally like 30 years ago.
Before Tyron, we hadn't taken an OL in the 1st since the 60s.

Well, yeah. A reach. We see those every year.

Still don't quite understand how it would be panicking.

I don't think they intended to take a corner in the third. We ended up with an extra third because of the Parsons trade down (kind of crazy we pulled that off) and it led to the Cowboys I think not really having a plan for the extra third. They tend to sort of ear mark picks. Much like last year where we knew DE/WR was going to be our second and third round picks. They were taking a TE in the fourth regardless. Oline was what they had targeted in the first.

The extra third was unexpected and they seemed to just kind of grab a random dude Quinn liked because of it. Panic may be the wrong way to define it.

They got to move him, even if for some random 6 or 7th.

He's more valuable than some schlub like Gifford, I'd keep him considering we're kind of banged up on the edge at the moment with Williams missing the Bears game and Parsons generally needing his snaps limited.

Eleven DL is pretty heavy.

Gifford has a Fassel roster spot, that makes him untouchable like Goodwin.

Probably, but with Clark back I'd rather keep the guy who can actually play and bank on Fassel being able to play 20 snaps a game with Cox or whoever.

But you're probably right, can't mess with those core ST'ers.
