Good. Because you sound like a flaming homer right now. McCarthy clearly has fucked up several times. He needs a guy upstairs helping him manage the clock, tell him when to challenge and proper use of timeouts. But I am sure that since he has won a Super Bowl, he is Teflon?
He's not Teflon, but it seems a bit over the top kill a coach with a proven track record who is currently 5-1. I don't think it's unreasonable to say the criticism has been over the top.
I don't agree with everything he's done and I've said as much. But I don't see anything that is panic inducing.
By the way, he's done more than just win a super bowl.
He's won 6 division titles, made the playoffs 9 times, won 10 playoff games, and made it to 4 conference championship games. He has a .606 career coaching record in the regular season and is the second winningest head coach in Green Bay history, only trailing the man they named their stadium after. He's 26th all time in coaching wins, and 36th in win percentage. He's 15th in playoff wins all time.
He's one of only 4 coaches to lead the same franchise to 8 straight playoff appearances. The others are Tom Landry, Chuck Noll, and Bill Belichick.
I don't need to recount our own franchise's track record during the same time period. He's a big upgrade over anything we've had since Parcells, and prior to that since Jimmy.
Maybe it ultimately won't work here, but we should be happy and encouraged that we've finally brought in a head coach of this quality.
But instead some of us have battered wives syndrome and flinch every time he makes a decision.
