I agree with him if healthy. But what are the odds of that with Smith? I'd be thrilled if he started 13 games.
I just don't see how Smith is "healthy" when he still has the same neck and did not have surgery.

He will be held out of practices by Week 2 and on IR again by midseason. That kind of thing just doesn't just go away from rest.

I thought he did have surgery?

"FRISCO, Texas — Left tackle Tyron Smith is expected to undergo season-ending surgery next week for a neck injury that has sidelined him for two of the Cowboys' first four games, head coach Mike McCarthy announced Friday.
"This is a correctable situation. He obviously will not be available the rest of the season," McCarthy said. "That's something that's been determined and I think clearly the focus is on him personally."

Thanks for filling me in. It has just been so long with this guy not going under the knife that I just took it as them crossing their fingers again.
I still wouldn't trust him. I'd prefer Surtain at #10 but if he's off the board I wouldn't be opposed to the Cowboys drafting one of the top two OTs. Slater is my preference.

Taking 2020 out of the equation....between the 2016-2019 seasons, Tyron Smith has missed 3 games in each of those seasons.

Feels like it's a safe bet to assume that he's going to miss at least 3 games this year as well. And you have to wonder how healthy and effective will he be in the games that he actually plays.

I think he gets by a lot now on rep. Opponents have already seen what he can do and he is sharp technically.

I just don't think he gets challenged enough physically. I just don't see how he could cope if pushed hard.

He is so good that now even at diminished capacity, he is better than most.

The question is for how long until the stingers or whatever show up again.

We should not be counting on Smith at all. Pretend like he doesn't even exist going into the draft. If Slater/Surtain/Pitts are all there at 10, you take Slater and don't even hesitate.

Yeah, I was surprised he finally had surgery. Sure hope he doesn't pull a Frederick on us right before the draft.

I honestly think they believe they can squeeze another year out of him.
