If Surtain were special, then his position wouldn’t matter. He’s a solid NFL player, and maybe one day he becomes elite, but he’s not Jalen Ramsey.

First, calling Surtain "solid" is selling him short. He's a very good player.

Second, Ramsey went 5th overall and could have justifiably gone higher. Luckily we don't pick 5th so it's not an apt comparison.

Surtain also isn't that far removed from Ramsey, basically the exact same height/weight/speed (depending on what you want to believe about 40 times at Pro Days). Ramsey is longer for sure and generally more explosive but Surtain is probably more refined than Ramsey was coming out.

If you were Bengals at #4, you pick WR Chase or OT Sewell?

For them I would probably go Chase. They don't have much at WR.

Sewell probably although the built in chemistry between Burrow/Chase would make it awfully tempting to go that route. If it weren't for Burrow I'd go Sewell 100%.

This is exactly my point, Surtain is not Ramsey.

In that same draft Eli Apple and Vernon Hargreaves went 11th and 12th. That’s more in the range of Surtain, as CBs get drafted higher than they should

These QBs and WRs are giving a shot at better than normal talent for the 10th pick.

One of the OTs or Parsons or Pitts.

He puts Apple and Hargreaves to shame in terms of size, athletic ability and what he did in college. Sorry you're not even comparing Apples to Apples. Pun intended.

Nice.

Bottom line we could do worse, but should try to do better.

Btw, if we were drafting 5th I wouldn't want Surtain OR Pitts at that spot.

I'd settle for Sewell if we had to stay put but I'd be screaming to the hills to trade down.
