To me Slater is a lock as as a Pro Bowl OG at the least, he could potentially be that as an OT, it's just not as much of a lock as on the interior in my opinion. That's something I'm willing to roll the dice on given the state of our OL and the other options at 10.

If he replaces Williams at LG immediately and has a Zack Martin-like impact, great, and when Smith is done you have the flexibility to kick him out there or just keep him at a spot where he'd be projectably elite.

Yeah, it would be hard to say no to another Zack Martin, especially with the Conners' inability to dominate and Tyron's declining health.

Especially a Martin who could play either guard or tackle.

Slater's technique is not the question for me (it's really solid), but mainly how well he projects to the NFL. I think with an NFL weight program we'll see a more finished product.

Hoping to already have that though with a top 10 pick.

If he becomes a FA, you'll still get a 3rd as a compensatory pick.

I very much doubt that, and it's definitely not guaranteed.

My guess would be a fourth round comp, but if we draft Pitts and Gallup becomes our 4th option, there's a good chance his production would be so low that he might only get a 5th round compensatory pick type of contract.

I think the compensation is based on the kind of contract he signs, and it’s likely going to be a major one.

I remember the outrageous deal Sammy Watkins signed with KC after being the third option in LA. He had first round pedigree, but really hadn’t realized his potential.

Given how solid he’s been in spite of getting the dropsies last year, I think Gallup could end up at or near #1WR money

Yeah he is Zach Martin to me. I don't think he will end up as good at guard as Zach Martin but frankly when we drafted Martin I didn't think he would become this good of a guard either. But we all saw Martin can kick out to LT and play pretty well there too. Maybe no elite but he there is nothing wrong when he plays OT either. That's sort of how I see Slater. He is probably a probowl guard and a solid LT. That's not ideal to me at 10 but hell why not? I'd rather get the next Tyron Smith at 10 but that guy isn't in this draft outside of the Oregon kid. So give me a guy who can be solid if Tyron goes down or retires and can play LG at a high level. We have the weapons on offense, if we can get back to having a dominant O-line again those weapons will thrive even more. And maybe Zeke will be decent.

People forget Canady because he opted out of 2020, but the guy is probably Awuzie’s equal if not better than him outright.

I wouldn't classify that as a need, though you can always use another one and I would definitely add one.

I don't know if that's likely, and if it's "near" #1 money then it won't be a third round comp.

And as I said, if we diminish his role and stats, it'll logically also diminish the contract he signs on the open market.

That's the problem, his targets would go down even more. He will leave Dallas for a chance to be a top WR again but that doesn't mean teams will be throwing big money at him again after a down year. If Pitts is this super stud I move right after the pick to get as much for Gallup as I can. That's sort of the point of BPA. Ignore need and if you become stacked at one position trade guys away for picks.

If they take Pitts, I agree I think that's the play. They're screwed a little if Pitts busts but you have to get the best value you can.

I'd even take a good defensive player if a team offered it.

I'm not convinced we could get a 2nd in return if teams know we really want to trade him, but I'd try. I think I'd try as soon as I picked Pitts.

It also limits what we can do in free agency. And a second round pick in 2022 is way different than a possible late third in 2023.

These are all factors, but the market for young, proven WRs in their prime will be very limited.

If the 2nd we are offered is a high second, I definitely think about it and a 1st is a no-brainer. But each year with a guy like this at this low cost is precious.

The receiving corps overall is elite without Pitts, and with him it might be 2013 Denver good or better. That offense had Julius Thomas and Wes Welker creating crazy mismatches on top of Damaryius Thomas and Eric Decker providing a strong 1-2 combo. To a man we could match or exceed all of them in talent.

I have made that trade in the simulation. Their drafting following the trade is horrendous. WHen i made that trade i Was still able to get Moehrig, Horn, or melifonwu, and Grant, Mcneill, Samuel jr, or Collins

why would jax trade up to #10? In their state (especially with rookie QB), they likely value two Top 33 players over a single player.

What player would have to be available for Jax to sacrifice a player? Slater is not worth it for them.

Maybe one of the top receivers. We don't need them but holy hell there are some elite receivers they could pair with a young QB.
