Anae is definitely a pet cat of mine. I'm excited for this young dude.
Same here. He's one of those late round picks who you kinda expect to make the final roster.

He has good size, on field production, and a strong work ethic....it would surprise me if he doesn't make the final cut.

Won’t Anae be used mostly as a pass rusher?

I'm sure. And considering the Cowboys are playing around with some 3 man fronts, I wouldn't be surprised to see him used a little as a OLBer/Pass Rusher in those odd fronts.

I didn't view him as a starter for this season either. I thought he'd be our 4th best CB this season as I think the experience and talent of Brown, Chido, and Lewis would be too much for him to overcome in season one.
Secondary lost a stud corner in Jones and was counting on one of the rooks or Canady to step up and be quality depth behind Awuzie, Lewis, and Brown.

With Canady opting out we do need at least one of the rookies to play... a lot.

Aldon Smith and Greg Zuerlein are the biggest surprises of the offseason thus far.

Great draft, solid FA haul, and brilliant signing of Griffen. But Smith and Zuerlein came out of nowhere, especially Smith.

Is it wrong of me to temper my enthusiasm with Smith? I just don't want to get unrealistic hopes for the guy since he's been away so long. That's not a typical recipe for success.

I would temper it for now. Our OL situation so far in camp has been a mess. I am waiting until I see him in live games before I get too excited.

The guy seems to have fallen back into his professional football self, left his baggage in the past, and salted it all with the wisdom of age.

We can't get enough good, seasoned NFL veterans. Smith needs to be careful or he might end up starting on our nickel packages.

Yeah I agree with this. It's hard when they aren't going against NFL caliber OTs.

So by extension good pass rushers should be getting consistent pressure then. Relative to the rest of the team Smith seems to be ahead as a pass rusher at this point.

Oh I'm already thrilled that he is here, showing he isn't totally washed up and is staying out of trouble. I'm just not ready to get too excited that he is the old double digit sack guy yet.

I mean, the talent for Smith has never been denied. This long away from the game is a question mark, but the guy was a freak. Combine his freaky-ness with little wear and tear, plus the aforementioned wisdom and motivation, and who is to say he doesn’t push for Comeback POTY?

Anyone else feeling freaky? I’m looking at you Phil.
