On the coaching side, Kellen Moore continues to struggle as an OC. Not only did they go overboard with the trick plays and reverses, but the timing of some of them was flat out awful. There were a couple of drives where the OL and RBs were gashing the Eagles D at about 7 yards a clip. They got inside the Eagles 40 yard line and instead of mixing it up by utilizing some play-action, Moore dialed up one of his reverses that got blown up for huge loss. Drives and momentum gone due to coach inexperience and stupidity.
Looks like Garrett's stank really rubbed off on him.

Those are all typical Garrett traits, but he too also seems to have no feel for momentum or situational awareness.

There's also no ability to make changes or pick up on something during the course of a game.

For example, the only pass that DiNucci was able to complete with any consistency was that quick out to Gallup. He was getting all kinds of cushion so that play worked about 4 or 5 times for roughly 8 yards a pop.

So as I'm watching this, I'm thinking how a studder and go should be there as the DBs were already setup to attack that screen.....but nope.

We never ever saw them try it even once.

Same as it ever was.

Defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford averaged 30 tackles, four sacks and four tackles for loss from 2012-18. The former third-round pick emerged as a leader and a hard-working productive player.

Injuries have robbed him of the ability to be productive.

Crawford has not recorded a tackle in his last four games, despite playing 109 snaps. He had one tackle against Cleveland.

It’s clear his body won’t let him be what he used to be.
He's not hurt, JJT.

We're in the top 5 picks now, with nothing to lose.

Let's keep playing the young guys on defense and let the cream rise.

Nooch too, but the receivers might stage a mutiny.
He's a rookie 7th rounder, not sure what folks expect.

For the experience he's got, Dalton really wasn't doing much better.

Dalton is the better passer but at least Nooch can scramble and throw the ball away. I'm sure he learned a ton playing. I know Dalton is the better QB right now and he will start but I would prefer to stick with the young kid and see if he develops at all. Dalton isn't taking this team anywhere and the offense was equally terrible with him at QB. So maybe let the young guy improve and see if he could be the backup next year.

I said it during the week, McGovern is a way better RG than Steele is RT. Steele literally kills like 2-3 drives a week all by himself and has 10-12 plays where he's just completely whipped.

I get not wanting to move around Martin too much but not only should you put your best 5 out there when you've had as many injuries as we've had, but the real reason I want McGovern out there is just to accelerate his development. Steele has no future on this team, he's completely horrendous, has literally allowed like 7 sacks in less than half a season, including like 3-4 strip sacks, and when Smith/Collins are back Knight will be the swing tackle and there's no place for him.
This. Get McGovern on the field, get Steele off. Win, win

The team is missing foundational players on defense, straight up. The rest is all filler and most of our players will fit in nicely.

We MUST replace Crawford with an All-Pro caliber 3T we can build around. The guy must have top level talent. Cox, Donald, Cam Heyward, etc. We should add a talented 1T who occupies blockers and still pushes the pile forward. Tyson Alualu is the perfect type of player.

CB and S are nice but lower priority-- upgrading our interior stoutness and as a direct result our pressure is priority #1.

We need to trade Jaylon Smith. Get some instinctive, quick, and stout LB bodies in here. Lee should retire. Build around LVE.

Where do you suggest we find a Hall of Fame caliber DT in the next 6 months?

If I could theoretically award the team a HOF-type player at any position right now it'd probably be DT, but it's very unlikely through the draft and impossible in free agency, they just aren't there unless you think Sheldon Rankins is on that level. I'd actually be happy if they went hard after Rankins, he's just not at that level that you're suggesting.

We could sign a 1T type in Dalvin Tomlinson, DJ Jones or a cheaper Alualu or Corey Peters, but there isn't a Cox or Donald out there in free agency or the draft.

And if there was a Cox or Donald set to hit FA they wouldnt be available. Their team would lock them up. Sucks that we missed out on Donald.

In retrospect, trading up for Claiborne and not Cox seems like a mistake. :giggle:
