Yeah no kidding. You can write him down as a pet cat of mine already. In the bowl game against Nebraska, they literally couldn't pass the ball without Barnett impacting the play. The guy is a beast.Derek Barnett there please.
Yeah I don't mean anything against Jones. I really don't know much about him at this point. He could be an excellent corner prospect. But I really don't want him in the late first. If we are getting a corner I want it to be someone that really stands out to me as an elite talent. And frankly those guys rarely last into the late twenties of the draft.Jones is actually a very good prospect, one I'd be fine with if he's the BPA and there weren't any options along the DL, but certainly not if Barnett was available.
Yes, yes, now you see.Yeah I don't mean anything against Jones. I really don't know much about him at this point. He could be an excellent corner prospect. Suddenly resigning Carr looks a lot better to me.
I'd much prefer a FS. And if Hooker fell to us I'd be all in. Probably not over Barnett but I really like Barnett. Hooker is exactly what we need in the secondary. Size, speed and elite instincts on getting the ball and scoring when he does. Might be my favorite safety in this draft. Actually let me change that, he is my favorite safety in this class. To me he looks like he has Sean Taylor type ability. For our needs, he is better then Peppers or Adams.Yes, yes, now you see.
Carr/Scandrick/Brown as our top 3, Jones comes down in some passing situations and then maybe we spend a mid-round pick on another CB for depth. I'd rather take a safety at 29 assuming we don't re-sign Church and Wilcox.
There's about as much a chance of Hooker falling to us as there is of Garrett, although if by some miracle of miracles he did I'd take him over Barnett. The best we could do at safety at 28 is probably a LB/SS hybrid like Peppers or Baker who could make plays within 10 yards of the LOS in passing situations, of course we'd still need a deep safety like Wilcox in that situation.I'd much prefer a FS. Yeah, I think the chances are poor. We may have a shot at Barnett simply because he doesn't really fit in a 3-4 defense and there are a lot of pass rushers in this draft. Plus he doesn't have the stereotypical long frame. He isn't a 6'5" pass rusher with long arms. Still I'm a huge fan of Barnett. That dude walked into Tenn as a freshman and dominated. 10 sacks and 20.5 tfls as a freshman in the SEC is insane. And there was never really a drop off with the guy either. As a sophomore he came in and had 10 sacks again with 12.5 tfls. As a Junior he stepped it up with 13 sacks. And then declared for the NFL draft. There's about as much a chance of Hooker falling to us as there is of Garrett, although if by some miracle of miracles he did I'd take him over Barnett. I wouldn't be shocked if Barnett is there because he probably won't test well. He's not an elite athlete, he isn't particularly explosive or quick twitch, his frame isn't impressive, his change of direction is somewhat limited and like you say, he isn't a 3-4 fit.Yeah, I think the chances are poor. He has the size to hold up as a run defender but has proven to be unstoppable as a pass rusher. I'm all in on this kid if he falls to our pick.
I think Garrett is a generational pass rusher, but I still would not give all of that up.F no. He's not some once in a lifetime pass rusher and that's a hell of a lot to give up for anything less.
Yeah I expect him to time in the 4.7's. And at 6'3" 270 pounds. None of that really gets an NFL team excited. But when you watch the guy play he goes 100 miles per hour at all times. He will beat you around the corner, he will bull rush you, he will spin inside. I mean the guy knows how to get to the QB. And that low center of gravity actually gives him an advantage bending the corner against OT's. It's just all very natural to him. It's why he was able to come in as a true freshman and dominate like that.I wouldn't be shocked if Barnett is there because he probably won't test well. He's not an elite athlete, he isn't particularly explosive or quick twitch, his frame isn't impressive, his change of direction is somewhat limited and like you say, he isn't a 3-4 fit.
I'd take him without a second thought for sure though because he just knows how to get to the QB. Great hands, relatively refined pass-rush moves, he is able to bend/flatten to the QB, good power and he closes quick on the QB once he has an angle.
Yeah he is a physical freak. You don't see a DE like him in every draft that's for sure.I think Garrett is a generational pass rusher, but I still would not give all of that up.
I agree. And if for some odd reason he lasts until our pick and we pass.....Barnett is going inthe top half of the draft.
That would be a tough choice. A true ballhawking FS would be tough to pass up especially since they don't really come around very often.I'd much prefer a FS. And if Hooker fell to us I'd be all in. Nope. Some mocks have him in the top 10. He is rising, not falling.I'm wondering if Solomon Thomas falls to the end of the 1st. If so, I wouldn't mind him landing here at all.
For now. There is always so much jostling after the All-Star Bowls and Combine some of the guys in the middle of the draft with fall to us. I'll try not to get my heart set on any one until at least all that is over.Nope. Some mocks have him in the top 10. He is rising, not falling.
Anyone hoping for Hooker, Thomas etc., forget it.
