Yeah, my problem is and always was, why extend a guy you have control over for 5 years after only 3. Truth is the guy threw a baby fit and the Cowboys caved. Had we waited until year 5 it was evident that his skills were starting to diminish. He didn't break 1000 yards that season. His average per carry had dipped to 4.0 ypc. And if we chose to resign him at that point his cost would have been significantly lower. But we severely jumped the gun for no reason. You should never jump the gun with the RB. And even if we drafted a guy in the first round this year, I'd let him play for 5 before ever considering an extension.
Actually, he rushed for 1,357 after signing the extension. Jerry blinked because he didn't want the season ruined by a lengthy holdout. He thinks every year is a SB year.

Yeah maybe I didn't make it clear. I was talking about season 5. Which had we not extended him early would have been the last year of his rookie contract (Including fifth year option). At that point there is no way in hell we would have given him a contract in the 15 mil a year type of range.

He was smart and saw that coming a mile away. Then proceeded to fleece the village idiots .

That’s a factor but being renewed isn’t my current argument. Now It’s who was the better running back During their tenure with the Cowboys. I say Murray was the better of the two.
Nope. I only asked a question, you didn’t answer it but tried to veer off. Not getting sucked in. Sorry.

The year after Philly was pretty damned good:

Carries - 293Yards - 1,287Ave - 4.4TDs - 9Long - 75
Ok, little better than I remembered but regardless, he wasn't worth the money or the long term deal he was seeking.

He was a top 5 pick, young, and had been wildly successful. If anyone deserved an extension, it was him. Nobody could have anticipated such a massive falloff.

He was rode pretty hard at Ohio State so he had some mileage.

He got a 6 yr $90 million deal and we got one good year? Not even an elite one. Fuck that shit.

If we’re looking at the tenure as a whole, one consideration worth mentioning outside of the stats is that Demarco Murray was only the bellcow RB for two years, splitting duties with Felix Jones his first two seasons. Ezekiel was 100% bellcow for four seasons.

Post signing. Look at the rookie deal numbers .

He was excellent value on his rookie deal. My point is he was not worth a 2nd contract and rbs very, very rarely are. And certainly not worth 6 yrs $90 million

Agreed. He had these morons over a barrel, and he won.

People bitch about Zeke, but there is not a person in here, if they’re being honest, that wouldn’t have done the same exact thing if in that situation.

Who you should be mad at for that contract is Jerry and Stephen.

Like someone mentioned earlier, especially when he could see what they'd just done with DeMarco.

Can't blame him for sticking to his guns.

It is not his fault that he was dealing with the worst GM who's ever owned an NFL franchise.

That's exactly who I'm mad at.

Thank you for the information but that doesn’t make him the better running back.

So Murray’s Cowboys tenure vs Zekes first 4 seasons . Is that your contention?
Tenure isn’t the issue. I contend that Demarco Murray was a better running back than Ezekiel Elliot. That is what I contend and believe . I also contend that the videos of each will show that Murray could accomplish things that Elliot cannot such as running wide much more effectively because he was fast enough to det to the corner. Elliot can’t get to the perimeter on a pitch. He isn’t fast enough.

The issue of should Murray be replaced is a moot point to my contention. I understand why Murray was let go. I’m just saying that Elliot was not a as dood a running back as Murray was.
