Yeah, this porch dweller knew that.

He's trying to tilt the playing field.

Good thing I have this Ryobi™ level to square shit back up.
Iam has both y’all whooped with his TroyBuilt.

I think he's a pretty close facsimile of his old self. I know he's not quite in his top form anymore, but let's not revise history. His injury history is a concern obviously, but he's still damn good when h plays.
Cage match between Tyron and Parsons. Who wins?

If I may go OT in the Patio Wars thread...

How much of this decision is the coaches, and how much is Jerry forcing it with his "If I'm Paying Them They're Gonna Play" doctrine?

Because that means everything.

He is but he also kind of looked bad at the end of last year. The 49ers game for him was not good. Now I think the obvious answer is that Tyron was probably not healthy by that point. We all know the guys injuries add up quickly. And the benefit is that when he comes back this year he should be 100% fresh.

Me, I don't mess with Smith. Just reminds me too much of last year when we jacked around with Collins at RT. But I can see both sides of it. Just feels like a bad swap to make mid-season when the starters are playing so well. Plus Tyron will just get hurt again more than likely.

No kidding. Maybe you make the move ASAP so when Tyron gets hurt again you still have a few weeks to put things back they way they were. :tippytoe

I don't know if that falls under that, tho. Tyron Smith is a HOF LT that plays great when he's healthy. And by all accounts, he's healthy. Ride that horse until you can't. If he gets hurt again, we have a nice fall back. With Tyron at LT and Tyler at LG, we have the chance at an elite oline. I'd take that chance.

I mean I'm just trying to be realistic. Do you make the switch if Tyron gets hurt 3 games into the switch? Does anyone have confidence that he will stay healthy for the remainder of the season. I know anyone could get hurt at any time but I feel like the odds are much higher with Tyron.

I get that the upside is higher there if it works. But I can't help going back to Collins last year. He is a better "talent" and has had a better career than Steele but that move messed up the OL. Now granted, a big difference is that Tyron isn't a lazy knucklehead like Collins, but still.

If Philbin and McCarthy want this move based on how great Tyron has looked in practice, fine. I just hope it's not based on Jerry looking at his payroll figures.

I think Collins has a lazy streak to him that Tyron doesn't have. I don't agree that the situations are comparable.
One guy is lazy and one is injury prone. Different reasons but same results in the end. Of course it didn't help that Tyron wasn't healthy towards the end of last year either and it was like a double whammy with throwing Collins in at RT.

Except if Tyron gets healthy it's much more reasonable to expect that he'll more or less be in great shape and hit the ground running than it was with Collins.

I don't actually have any problem with what he's saying here.

As always with Jerry you kind of have to parse what he means.

But he's saying that yes the coaches and players have to be focused on the task in front of them and not down the road. But the GM kind of has to be looking down the road because he has to make decisions now that have long term consequences. And he has to put the team in a position down the road that can maximize their ability to compete.

Ultimately the players and coaches have to worry about the giants right now, but the season isn't about this giants game so the GM has to by definition have his eye on the bigger picture and where they're ultimately trying to get to at the end of it.

And he's right.

Like Geng said, completely different players. Tyron has always been known as a professional, hard working player. Collins? Not so much. And to me, that makes all the difference.

A professional, hard working player with a ton of miles on the odometer who last year wasn't the All-Pro we all remember.

But, point taken. If this happens at least we get the Hulk package back with Mongo at fullback.

I think you guys are cutting him way short. He was a lot better than people are letting on. With the caveat being, when healthy. And he is healthy and fresh right now. Maybe he stays healthy, maybe he doesn't. If he does, we have an elite oline. If he doesn't, we go back. We have that luxury. It would be stupid not to take advantage of it.

Problem is, I'm not sure he knows exactly why he is right.
