Stephen Jones: We see the draft as not the right time for veteran players. Last night was an eye-opener -- surprising me -- with all the shopping and trades. We usually see a big discount in value for veterans when trading day of draft cuz a team is aiming to get a specific prospect. We think trading after the draft reaps better value since you're talking about trading your player for next year's draft.
Retarded bitch. How long have you and your daddy been doing this? You should have a clue by now. Dumbass.

Pretty cool stuff right here.

After a call from Dak Prescott, receiver Jalen Tolbert had a feeling he'd be a Cowboy

  • Todd ArcherESPN Staff Writer
FRISCO, Texas -- When Jalen Tolbert answered the phone a few days ago, he figured it was somebody from the Dallas Cowboys confirming his number in case they picked him in the NFL draft.
Turns out it was Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
“I answered and he was like, ‘Jalen,’ and I was like, ‘What’s up? And he’s like, ‘This is Dak Prescott. How are you doing?’” said Tolbert, the South Alabama wide receiver who was selected in the third round by the Cowboys Friday at No. 88 overall. “For a minute it was like a surreal moment because I never knew quarterbacks would call prospects, but it was an awesome, great experience.”
Prescott spoke with Tolbert for about 20 minutes, “and I think we immediately vibed on the phone, connected right there.”
The Cowboys considered Tolbert in the second round before selecting Ole Miss pass-rusher Sam Williams. They were happy to see him available in the third round. He caught 82 passes for 1,474 yards and eight touchdowns last season, including a seven-catch, 143-yard effort against Tennessee.

“We talked about my previous relationships with my quarterbacks,” Tolbert said. “We talked about my strengths on and off the field, what challenges I had to overcome. Also what I could bring to the table. Dak was asking me if he could put me at X by myself in a three-by-one or if I could go to the slot between CeeDee [Lamb] or Michael [Gallup]. All of it, we just talked.”
At the end of the conversation, Prescott told Tolbert to give him a call if he needed anything.
“I’m definitely going to call him tonight, let him know I’m ready to get on the plays,” Tolbert said. “I need the playbook.”
The call from Prescott wasn’t the only indication of the Cowboys’ interest in Tolbert. Wide receivers coach Robert Prince put him through a private workout.

“I showed that I could retain information and be able to run routes in the system of the Cowboys,” he said. “And then after I remember asking [Prince], ‘Hey, coach, what can I work on?’ and he was like, ‘I’ll tell you that when we make you a Cowboy.’ I kinda got a little hint there.”
The Cowboys had a wide receiver need after trading Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns and losing Cedrick Wilson in free agency to the Miami Dolphins. Gallup re-signed with the team on a five-year deal but he is expected to miss at least a couple of games after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee late last season. The Cowboys added James Washington as a free agent but needed more help.
And Tolbert comes with Prescott’s approval.
“I know Michael Gallup is a receiver that goes down the field like I do and I know CeeDee is able to break tackles and play physical like I am,” Tolbert said, “so I’m excited to learn from both of those guys and be able to get to work.”

Yeah that was funny hearing him admit his old theory might be totally wrong.

But are there any consequences to being totally wrong? Of course not.

That's more or less my list, I'd also add:

Darrian Beavers
Hassan Haskins
Neil Farrell
Isaiah Likely
Daniel Bellinger
Dominique Robinson
Amare Barno
Isaiah Thomas
Micheal Clemons
David Anenih
Otito Ogbonnia
Mike Rose
Verone McKinley
Tariq Castro-Fields
Zach Tom
Alec Lindstrom

My top 5 in the 4th are Winfrey, Salyer, Coby Bryant, Kolar and Shakir, in no order.
Zach Tom is right out of the position flex bin. I think Castro-Fields has some injury issue.

I think he was talking about DeAngelo Malone from Western Kentucky.
No. Its was Paschal from Kentucky. Archer had a tweet where we might have drafted him if Williams was gone in the second.

I don't know if Sam Williams was as much a draft for need as it was just a player that the Quinn and the Cowboys really fell in love with. And I get why, there is a lot to love about the guy.

Tolbert fit a position of need but I could easily argue he was the best available at that point in the draft. He was a second round WR in my book. I think I mentioned it during the second round, he was my guy right behind Watson and Pickens. So I was really happy to see him last until our third. He is going to outpace a lot of WR's who were drafted before him in my opinion.
Does Tolbert have any return ability/experience?

Press Conference:

Stephen Jones: I wouldn't call the positions we drafted as 'musts' but definitely could be improved. Looking for help in three positions with our first pick in the 2nd, and one player was taken, leaving two positions of help remaining.
i looked back at the second round. We took an edge rusher, so discounting those there were 7 WR, 6 DB, 1 TE, 2 RB, 1 C, and 1 DT taken ahead of us. Based off of our visits and operations, the safe bet is a WR we wanted went or McBride was considered in round 2.
It also reinforces we are drafting for need first. No mention of “a guy who could help regardless of position.” Just 3 positions of help.
So our fourth is looking like a TE because I don’t think our braintrust values S or DT still and they don’t see either as a weakness on this team.

LB, RB, another WR, DT, a random S/LB tweener, and TE is my guess.
TE is pretty much a given for the 4th.

I would be very pleased with Kolar.

If they pick Otton, not so much. Isaiah Likely, same.

More defense in round 4, please.
There isn't a lot left worthy of the round though.

Winfrey, Woolen, Beavers, John Ridgeway, Jojo Domann are pretty much my targets.

I would also take Damone Clark and redshirt him.

Winfrey lasting until day 3 is the shocker for me. I had him pegged as the best OU defensive player heading into the draft but two of his teammates have already been drafted.
