I stopped reading when the write up started with his pee wee career.

I'm sure it was a great write up though.
Eh Bruglar is thorough. I appreciate that he literally does all the background research on players down to the in depth shit like that. The Beast is to me the best comprehensive player information. Interesting he is like the youngest player in the draft. Or one of the youngest.

You should read the rest. It's a pretty accurate and honest assessment of the guy.

GRADE: 2nd Round (No. 50 overall)
Yeah I think Brugler's eval is what had me think he was early-mid 2nd. The question is, where would he have really gone? If we traded back, would we have still gotten him? Such a run on OL. Further, are there other OL in the draft we could start in Sept? Hell, can we start this guy in Sept? I guess we will see in time.

He's a Cowboy now, I hope he is develops into a stud.

The Fan/DC.com guys were suggesting that Steve smiling a couple minutes before the pick was Jerry basically getting the Titans to admit to him they wanted Smith. Said Jerry is really good at getting teams to tell him that.

Could be complete BS, who knows.
"Other teams were targeting him so we had to snag him when we did!!" That's another old chestnut of theirs.

Well you ask the team who they are going to take and they tell you. If they lie, that gets out and other teams won't trade with you. You don't trade with a team if they want who you want. That story kind of makes me feel bettter.

Jerruh: The trade that Stephen Jones had on the phone was to trade-up to trade for Tyler Smith. So we knew we were in the wheelhouse to draft Tyler Smith.

Stephen Jones: We think Tyler Smith can be our Left Tackle down the road sometime. He can be a top, top LT. We like Tyron now, of course.

This imo, is another very strong point in his favor. 20 yrs old. I love drafting young guys with minimal tread wear.

I still get itchy thinking about Terrance Newman's draft age.

Stephen: We know about the competition level, talent level at Tulsa, but we have Coach Philbin and the coaching staff.

Stephen: We didn't want to get too cute and try to trade down 2, 3, 4, 5 picks. We miss the nastiness and toughness of La'el Collins, but that's a big part of why we like Tyler Smith.

McCarthy: Tyler Smith has a high ceiling. His penalties were of an aggressive nature. Joe Philbin was very comfortable about him.

I hate them both so much. The whole family is the worst thing in sports.

I mean I don't think he was going to make it to pick 50 based on how the draft was going. My personal opinion is that you shouldn't look at that as a team. That's just the definition of drafting for need. But lets face it, that's what NFL teams do, they draft for need and that's probably why the dude wasn't going to make it out of the first round even if we didn't take him.

I've said it, I like the player and would have had no problem taking him in the second round. I think he brings the nasty that I want to LG. He has the build and power. I just think he is too raw for a first round pick. But I'll take that every day over Connor Williams 2.0 Raimann. I just hope our O-line coach is up to the challenge on fixing this dudes hands. It's his biggest problem. At LT in pass protection he would panic and get those hands outside and hold waaaaaay too much. Absolutely can be corrected but it's a nasty habit that's going to have to be fixed.

Stephen Jones: After we picked Tyler Smith, the team we were going to trade told me that he should be happy they didn't make the trade because he would've picked Tyler Smith.

Yeah, no, he was a reach. But what are you going to do in Sept if you don't have a starter? This is the problem with going into the draft with huge holes. We could at least have signed Hernandez. Still can't believe he busted. I would have tried to rehabilitate his mean ass.

And didn't mention McGovern until he almost realized he was leaving him out.

One tidbit I thought was interesting: He said Smith was a left side player while Ball was a right side player. So I guess they see Ball as a RT only. I wouldn't have thought that from his build but I guess he just didn't show enough to play LT.

I get Bruglar had Smith 50th overall, but I think he is too critical and had Raimann much higher which I like many strongly disagree with.

Walter Football IMO usually gets it right and they had Smith in the middle-late first round

Physically Smith has the frame to be as solid a player as Ekwonu, but he lacks the polish and some of the technique.

Well, we won’t need him to play LT tear one, he can play LG.

Think he’s going to be fine. I’m just going to he comparing him with Jermaine Johnson for a while until he proves himself.

If we really found our LT of the future and a LG who beats out Connor McGovern in 2022, then I’m good.

Yeah that's weird. But some guys just aren't good at flipping sides. I thought Ball was a LT in college though. So I would have thought he would be comfortable on that side.
