I am not pining for Pitts, but I think he is special. Therefore I take him over an off-the-ball LBer.
Pitts won't make it to 10 anyway. But if he did you have to imagine someone would want to trade up for this other world all time great TE.

I'm going to go ahead and say it, mainly to counter the hype, but I don't think Pitts is some transcendent talent that only comes around every 30 years or whatever.
No one could live up to this level of hype.

I think at least some of it comes from teams trying to drive up his value to push down guys they really want.

What I find interesting is Pitts has almost the exact same measurables as Calvin Johnson as a tight end. It could make him a transcendent player but that isn't possible to tell yet. The other thing with him is that supposedly Kyle Trask isn't a great QB but both Pitts and Toney put up good numbers with him. So, either they both made Trask better or Trask is better than he is getting credit for.

I think it's a little of both. I think Trask is a very capable QB when given weapons. He is a great facilitator. But I also think Trask is shit without great weapons.

As far as Pitts goes he isn't as fast as Calvin Johnson but most other qualities are very similar. I'm also not sure I trust the alleged 40 times this year. Amazing how this is the all time fastest draft when no combine exists and players are running under ideal conditions. Hell some places the 40 is downhill ffs.

Trask would be a good late round pick if available.

I do think Parsons has a very high ceiling but he's not without flaws. I worry about his play recognition for example.
I worry that he sort of has no ball skills in coverage. But I don't really count on my LBers picking off a bunch of balls so I can live with it.

Collins picked off a few... and showed better hands in doing it than most of the CBs we've drafted the last 20 years. #petcat

Generally speaking I agree about Parsons and wouldn't hesitate to take him at 10 theoretically, but I worry about him coming into this specific environment. He's relatively new to the position and seemingly immature, personality wise based on the rumors, but also in terms of his ability to read/process the game. He likely needs some strong veteran leadership to help show him the ropes but what do we have?

LVE, who is barely older than Parsons, is playing for his next contract and looking to prove himself after a couple injuries, I doubt he's going to be interested (or even capable?) of mentoring Parsons.

Smith? Please.

Lee? That could work if we re-sign him on a vet min deal to basically be a player/coach, but who knows what the likelihood of that is.

If we had gotten rid of Smith and signed KJ Wright I'd feel much better about it but our infrastructure isn't exactly ideal to nurture someone like Parsons right now.

Yep. At this point I don't think I trust anyone's time.
