They could also use one of the WRs, Pitts. Sewell, Slater, Parsons, big trade down if one of the QBs make it to 8... literally anything.
If Pitts makes it to 8 he makes a lot of sense there. I still believe if you have a young TE Pitts still makes sense. You can call it a 2 TE offense but with Pitts receiving skills he may be right up there with the WRs in this class in catching ability. TE is just a label that people worry too much about. Pitts is a pass catcher. Think slightly slower Calvin Johnson.

I have a feeling Watson is toast.
Whether he's screwed or not long-term, there's virtually no way that he'll avoid a significant suspension over this.

He’s much bigger than Johnson and he really does block and play TE.

You wouldn’t have Johnson blocking next to the offensive tackle handling possible blitz pickup vs interior LBs because he’d get flattened. But Pitts could block on one play then catch a pass on the next play and the defense wouldn’t know.

Pitts is a walking mismatch vs most CBs and all LBs

I think he's about an inch and about 5-10 lbs more than Johnson?
Already, and he hasn’t hit an NFL weight program yet.

Point is you wouldn’t keep Johnson in to block because he wouldn’t win enough battles on legit running plays for it to be worth setting up a pass from that formation later.

Calling Pitts a big WR is a lie. He’s a TE, period.

You're not going to be lining Pitts up next to the OT in running plays. He is a serviceable blocker but let's not get crazy here.

Correct. I guarandamntee you that it will be rare that he is lined up tight, leading on running plays. He is a serviceable blocker, at best. Could he get better? Sure. But he will never be mistaken for a strength blocking in the running game.

So, yeah. He's a big WR playing at the TE spot.

He’s a better blocker than you are crediting him with being. Especially in pass protection. He’s a complete TE, and teams will want him playing every down.

And Surtain is way better than you are portraying him

Sure teams will want him playing every down. You can play him like a WR. So you don't even have to use him inline as a run blocker. You can line him up off the line and let him block like a jumbo slot. You can line him up wide and let him block corners. Occasionally you'll run behind him inline to keep defenses honest but I wouldn't bother using a LBer to cover him. I wouldn't respect his run blocking enough for that.

He’s not better than CJ Henderson was last year, and Henderson went 9th overall. He’s not in Marshawn Lattimore or Denzel Ward’s class either. To a man each ran sub 4.4 at the combine, also unlike Surtain.

Kiper has Surtain ranked something like 16-17th, and I think that’s about right.

Basically you are getting the worst top 10/11 CB prospect of recent years.

Just because you have to draft defense. Because without this one guy you’re not getting to the Superbowl. Despite that even the best secondary in the Rams only have one blue chip draft pick— no, we need two.

Nice reach.

And he’ll destroy that DB in the running game all day. This was the dilemma Alabama faced vs. him. He was hugely impactful in that game in every phase, and is only improving.
