Nobody said we'd be better "dumping" Cooper. No point in making stuff up. Only makes people take what you're saying even less seriously. All that was said is that we already have very young, very good players to step in to his spot when the time comes to let him go.

And you are listing guys like Jaylon Smith, thinking that helps your argument? Seriously? And why list Anae? Bernard? Did they get some snaps that I may have missed where they showed they should be counted on improving this defense? We had an all time bad defense, and they still saw no time. They might prove to have something somewhere down the line. But as of right now, they can't be counted on. They are more likely to fail than to succeed. And I find it funny you are now naming Gregory as someone who we can be counting on, when you've pretty much shit on him every chance you got since we've drafted him.

No offensive skill positions in the first round. We can't afford that luxury.

Draft defense, or trade down. Then draft defense.

Yeah we definitely need defensive help. Most of it has to come through FA so the draftees can provide quality rotation in their first year.

But ignoring the best player on the board because of need is just asking to be fucked repeatedly over the years as that player dominates for another team.

In two years both the defense and offense will be greatly different, but that best player will probably still be the best player and you'll regret not having taken him.
I have said this many many times, you can't go strictly BPA or need. It's a balancing act. If we had gone strictly by need, Ceedee Lamb would not be on this team. You have to balance the two.

If he was still on the team, I'd understand. But he's a FA.

Dallas has just two safeties under contract, Thompson and a scrub, Parker.
Hes not a free agent until after 2022 season.

I am almost strictly BPA. Like 90% BPA 10% need. The draft is for long term building, not immediate fixes.

But there has to be some logic applied too. If you have Patrick Mahomes in his mid 20s, for example, it doesn't make much sense to draft a first round QB no matter how highly rated you have the guy. Take the next best guy or trade down.

The worst thing you can do is target ONE position and only that position. It leads to busts pretty often.

But the truth about BPA is that there usually isn't just one guy who is clearly the best guy left available. Sometimes that happens, but often there are a pool of guys available with roughly the same ability and potential relative to their positions. So a lot of times the position a guy plays skews your decision one way or another.

We have desperate needs at every level of the defense and we could use pretty much everything on defense. That's enough of a wide net that there's no inherent danger in reaching for a player at 10. I don't think there's ever been a draft - ever - that no defensive player was a worthy pick at 10 overall.

Meanwhile our offense - when healthy, and there's no reason to think it won't mostly be healthy in 2021 - is among the best in the league.

If we take an offensive player at 10, it's like paying double your mortgage one month but having no money left over to pay your utilities. It's nice to get your payment down but what good is it if they shut off your electricity?

That's sort of the thing. When you're sitting at 17 and an obvious top 10 pick falls to you it is one thing. When you're sitting at 10 and the 8th or 9th best player in the draft is available it's a little different. Sure they may be BPA but how much better are they than the 10th or 11th best player.

When you're at 17 and the 6th best player in the draft is still available, there is a massive talent gap. If Dallas was picking at 17 and Pitts fell I might feel differently. But Pitts is a freaking TE. Yes he is an excellent TE prospect but he plays a position that is not typically viewed as a high impact position. Look around the NFL, there are literally 2 1,000 yard TEs. It's because TE's aren't really that overly important. So even a really great TE they are going to get bumped down some because of the position. Now some are viewing Pitts more like a WR prospect which is why he is projected to go as high as he is. And I get that but at some point if all your talent is at one position your team is still going to suck.

I don't care what they do as long as we can get some verified numbers on an even playing field (i.e. no fast tracks for some guys, not for others, etc.).

I don't even care if it's in TV or not, I just want the numbers and video after the fact if possible.

So last night my friends and I did our drafts and this is what I came up with. Its a complete overhaul on the defense with some ball hawks and run stoppers and even got a nice treat at edge Screenshot_20210117-095019_Chrome.jpg

Good looking draft, although a bit far fetched with players like Werner lasting until the fourth.
