Bullshit. They got dominated inside by a crap OL.
Ooooh, dominated to the tune of (gasp) 20 points and a positive turnover ratio.

When did anyone besides Zeke Elliott make a play tonight offensively?

All that talent, money, and draft capital— 17 fucking points

Projecting if we can win a bad division is of no comfort. McCarthy is here to help the team turn the corner and they looked as inconsistent, directionless and lost as ever.

Very disheartening. Of course I’m willing to say it is a strange week 1 but if this team isn’t capable of leaping into the upper echelon with all they have going right for them now, well, then as I asked a few weeks back, when the fuck are they going to?

We might be cursed.
The only thing I can say is that McCarthy isn't perfect but he does have a track record of pretty consistent success. For now we just have to trust the track record and that they'll get things figured out.

I think you're undercutting your own point. There were few deep shots because there was no protection. KM can't call a bunch of deep throws when the line isn't holding up. Recipe for sacks. I'm guessing they couldn't do screens either with a RT that hasn't played with the 1st team much at all. Losing the other backups was a disaster.
Understood. But at some point Dak has to stop playing it safe and launch it anyways.

Or take off and run.

Bottom line HE HAS TO TAKE OVER.

This is his team now.

We can’t afford to take what the defense gives us all the time. Not with this much talent.

Yeah this is a bad injury for us. I don't feel good about any of our TEs being able to catch balls.
Not just catch balls, but be where they're supposed to be, not take stupid penalties, and not get in the way.

Schultz repeatedly falls all of those. Just a bad player since day 1.

He has a track record of riding Aaron Rodgers to victory

Dak ain’t Aaron Rodgers

Think we should try to trade for a TE maybe, pick up Harrison and sign Thomas.

It was underwhelming on both sides of the ball, suffice to say. No need to get into “which side,” cost us the game because neither were ultimately very good or as billed.

The D couldn’t get off the field for far, far too long in the game. Getting a couple key stops late is nice but they were also the beneficiaries of the Rams missing a FG and having to settle for two other chip shots or this game could have been out of hand early.

The offense put together exactly two nice drives in the first half to net us two TDs and did shit all the rest of the night. 17 points is not good enough, bad PI call or not. The fourth down call is meaningless if they actually managed to convert in the standard 3 downs like good offenses do.

The OL was underwhelming but I thought having pro bowlers in Martin and Smith was good enough that they should be able to overcome average or bad player like Looney and Steele with coaching, yet tonite they were tremendous sore spots.

Again, chalk it up to strange offseason related rust, but it better get better in a hurry or this team is no better than the 8-8 / 9-7 / 10-6 fake contender it’s always been.

Just curious... How long can we expect these veiled Garrett defenses? Is this just a first week thing, or a season long thing?
The bar has been set. So fortuitous That NYG is Week 5 this year instead of opener. A month of buildup.

im enjoying it.

Will he poop out before then and zeal go flaccid? Or like a serial killer will he hone his craft, get more demonstrative and bold.

Week 5 gonna be the Chatter show of the year.

Don’t let us down, Schmitty.

Great QBs take over, this is true.

The other McCarthy mistake not getting talked about a lot is attempting the 53 yarder. Obviously not as big as the other decision, but I think I would have gone for it there. That's a long field goal for a guy who didn't seem to attempt many long attempts in camp and wasn't particularly good at it last year.

That call on Gallup isn't made and you easily argue he did. There is only so much you can overcome. But no Dak isn't a HOF player. At least not yet. But he's plenty good enough to win a SB if you pair him with an elite defense.

We'll see, I'm not expecting a NFCC in his first year, but if we don't at the very least get to one within his first 3 years I won't know where to go.

We're very talented and McCarthy is a reasonably solid HC, if we can't at least achieve some measure of success over the next few years I don't think any Cowboys fan can ever have high expectations again and actually believe them.

Just watch and hope for the best because objectively I don't think you can expect a roster to be too much more talented than what we have right now, injuries aside.

Snacks. Dareus. Thomas.

Bring them in.

But what about the inept offense that can’t score more than 17 points with supposed pro bowlers all over the place???

The one thing offensively that was clearly an improvement over years past was the integration of Elliott into the passing game, aside from that it looked a lot like last year.

I’ll just say this and then I’m headed to bed. I wasn’t expecting 14-2 this year but I was expecting with what this team returned and the draft they had, the additions in free agency, and of course the clear coaching upgrade, that this team would come out looking and feeling different. Like it did when Parcells was here, even the losses felt different than the Campo days of incompetence.

Instead it felt literally exactly the same.

McCarthy’s first outing is a fail.

It’s a long season, though, but we should have done much better tonight.

Can anyone tell me what our gameplan was tonight?

I agree. But let's just hope the chaos of training camp, the lack of a preseason, and all the injuries caused a lot of issues for the new coaching staff. Hopefully they can iron shit out over time.
