Hey, that’s the point where businesses band together and stop paying their property taxes altogether. Hopefully they had insurance, it’s mandatory here in order to stay open.
Rebuild with the money, if city inspectors show up, tell them to get the fuck off of your property.
These motherfuckers in government exist to be a convenience to the people they serve, not the other way around.
I dont think they see it that way and I wonder if most are merely hanging on long enough to reach retirement
they've got me by the balls because if I don't pay my taxes, the fines drive taxes up even more and they can eventually take the property. If you dont have any equity and you dont care about losing the property, then you can play hardball but if you've been responsible, hard working, paid off your debt and own something free and clear, you're at their mercy.
Banding together and having a class action lawsuit is probably a better route.
The problem is if you have a job or run a business, you're probably working really hard which leaves no time to try and fight city hall so the jackasses with time on their hands fill the void and we suffer for it. I've avoided getting involved my whole life because the fight feels so futile but I was wrong and should have committed a portion of my time toward trying to influence things in the government all along the way, I just despise everything about the process and have avoided the responsibility so in some ways, I'm to blame
