Anyone know why UNLV has the Rebels as their mascot anyway? I never thought about it having anything to do with the confederacy, and why would it? I always thought it had something to do with the Wild West or something.

Edit, here is even super-woke Deadspin explaining that it isn't racist* and isn't about the confederacy, though at one time they had some confederacy-looking logos because they thought the powers that be in the state legislature always favored the northern Reno branch.
