Wow, these are all great ideas. And, not just for the black community. Trades have been lost in this country. We need more plumbers, carpenters, electricians, welders, etc.
and we need to somehow get people to understand these are honorable jobs to have, it seems many look down their nose at what is considered menial labor whereas its actually a craft to be honed over time you can be proud of
My plumber (I'm a builder) came over from Mexico, didn't speak the language and realized he'd go further by learning the language then he started working for a plumber, getting more experienced along the way, his English improved, his skills improved and he managed to buy a house for him and his young family (wife and 3 kids). Then he paid off that house, bought another one and rented the old one to bring in extra $$. He just finished building a new house and he is keeping the last one, giving him 2 rentals and a nice new 3500SF home with a pretty low loan to value.
Now how does a guy who doesnt speak the language, didn't have a skill when he came here find himself 15+ years later speaking English fluently & has become a master plumber figure it out but people that were born here cant?
People have no patience or willingness to sacrifice for long term goals. I don't know how people acquire these attributes but to me they're essential to success.
