Sorry...I just don't get what the Cowboys FO is doing, especially with tons of cap space and a useless turd occupying another 9 million of it.

Depending on Gregory, who hasn't played in 2 years, and now Smith who hasn't played in 5 years as an answer for the pass rush woes is retarded at best.
If they treat this signing, and Gregory for that matter, as found money then it's fine. They basically have to ignore they're on the roster and then if they contribute, great.

But going into next season with Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong, Gregory and Aldon Smith as our edge rushers would be a ridiculously massive gamble and completely idiotic.

As long as this has no bearing on their draft strategy it's a perfectly fine gamble, even if I think they could use the money more effectively elsewhere.

If they ignore edge rusher in the draft and just go into the season with Lawrence and a merry band of reinstatement hopefuls that's...not great.
I agree. Treat anything you get from Gregory or Smith as a bonus, don't count on it.

Ultimately the draft will tell us how good/bad these moves are. If we take BPA, great. If this is just an excuse to move on from the DL in the draft...

Exactly right. If they treat Smith and Gregory as a potential bonus? Great.

If they use either or both thinking that they now don't need help at DE? That's terrible.

I know it's a no-risk deal but I wouldn't waste a minute of my time on a guy with a rap sheet this long. We're not talking about someone who just smoked a little weed or who only got into 2 or 3 incidents. Look at the below laundry list of incidents. This guy is an idiot and he continued to be an idiot even while out of football. Notice the dates. Normally when someone is banished from a pro league it's a reality check and they usually straighten up and stay out of trouble in hopes of being reinstated. Not Smith though.

Aldon Smith’s mountain of legal issues
Here’s a rundown of the breathtaking amount of off-field issues Smith has encountered since entering the NFL:

I wonder what kind of shape he’s in, it’s been a long time since he’s even been in a training camp or game.

Most likely he will be on his best behavior for a year. Use him for the year let him go in FA and hope for a compensatory pick.
