the willful ignoring of better players available at our selection slot (purely for Marinelli's fantasy) is infuriating. It goes hand in hand with the undervaluing of DT and S in general. We clearly had need in both positions, and still do.
Yes, and it was maddening to watch offenses run the ball right up the gut and down our throat. Mainly because Marinelli didn't want a monster run stuffer. It happened over and over.
Not to mention the glaring weakness at safety.

I detect a slight hint of optimism in that post
A slight hint, yes. I was never one to believe that simply getting rid of Garrett was a cure-all. Getting rid of him was a big first step of course, but Jerry's parted ways with lots of coaches and nothing's really changed.

I'll be curious to see how long McCarthy's leash is as the months pass. I read where The Idiot Son is attending the Senior Bowl. Oh dear.

LATE EDIT: Both Jerry and the Idiot Son are at the Senior Bowl. Per Jerry: "We’ll take care of evaluating this talent, at least for right now, while he’s [McCarthy] doing that work to put the staff together.''

I've been wondering about McCarthy's long term freedom and authority as well. Looks great right now, but Jerry is Jerry. How long will he be able to keep his hands off and his mouth shut? I really think if he starts getting into McCarthy's hula hoop there's gonna be some intense head-butting.

McClay better be with their dumbasses.

I don't agree with that. It was definitely time to move on, so it's easy to forget what utter dogshit the defensive line was when he got here. We are much more talented there now than when he started.
Really? What do they have?

Just posted an article that stated McClay and other scouts are with Stephen and Jerry isn't there.

Goof Son: “As you all know, Rod very (much) knew what he wanted in his defense and the type of players he wanted. So, there is some degree of flexibility there.”

So he is basically admitting that Marinelli held us back.

Well, he was in Houston yesterday talking about the two times Bob McNair made him cry.

The starters on the DL in 2014 when Marinelli became DC:

DE Jeremy Mincey
DT Tyrone Crawford
DT Nick Hayden
DE George Selvie

Are you trying to say that the 2019 group isn't much more talented?

Am I missing some sort of existential question here or are you asking me to look up the roster for you?
it seems as though he thinks the current group isnt very impressive either.

But my original point was that the DL group has gotten much more talented - and productive - since Marinelli took over. He wasn't just a complete disaster. That said, it could have been better and it was time to move on.

I don't think I'm saying anything out of left field here.

Marinelli could get more results out of lesser talent.

He proved it this year when he didn't get shit.

I think what you're "missing" is the fact that the defensive line cupboard is bare. Right now, they've got Lawrence and that's about it.

So no, the line isn't "in better shape".

2017 1st round pick - nothing to show for it.

2019 2nd round pick - nothing to show for it.

That's about as "complete disaster" as it gets.

I don't agree with that. I think Antuan Woods, Kerry Hyder and Maliek Collins are all better than those previous lines mentioned.
