Exactly!

And lets not forget the decision to hold on to a struggling kicker for far too long. If he'd have churned Maher sooner maybe they pick up an extra win or two and actually make the playoffs.
It's poetic, really. Betrayed by that which he held most dear.

And it's stuff like that which make me think he would be god awful in the front office. Same thing with the special teams coach and all the former players as coaches. I don't think Garrett has the right mentality for this stuff. On the surface it just looks lazy. But maybe he just doesn't have the stomach for tough decisions.

Put the party hats and kazoos away for the time being...

“”After the owner decided not to extend Garrett in the offseason, the coach's contract is set to expire on Jan. 14””

But who bought into the idea that he was good? Garrett loved his long distance ability because it aligned with his conservative nature. Did everyone really assume there was no other better options available?

I'll never really forgive Garrett for wasting the primes of so many elite players and blowing so many opportune chances
Completely fine?

Why the hell would anyone want that loser anywhere near this team after having to endure 10 years of his stank?

What makes you think that same narrow-minded arrogance that be brought as a coach wouldn't carry over to that position?

He thinks he knows better than everybody and it's been clear for years, including this one, that he overrode his offensive coordinators and forced his plays and gameplans onto them.

So what do you think he would do to the head coach below him?

No, get that fucking guy as far away from Dallas as possible. I don't even want him serving popcorn in the stadium.

I cannot believe after what we've seen from him as the HC that anyone would be ok with him remaining part of this organization in any capacity.

Even if he ended up coaching high school football in Dallas, he'd still be way too close for comfort for my liking.
Because Jerry Jones is the GM.

I don't want him as GM or involved in any way with the organization, but given how dysfunctional this organization is I'd rather have him as GM than Jerry.

If we don't get one of the "splash" guys (Meyer, Riley, pie in the sky shot for Payton, etc.) I think Campbell is the guy, which I'd be pretty happy with depending on what type of staff he brings in.

I wouldn't love the fact that it'd be a "in the family" type of hire but I think Campbell is objectively a very solid HC candidate.

Yeah, I could live with Campbell.

Well, having heard from @lostxn - I agree, having him around the team in any capacity would be bad for the next administration. At least immediately. Maybe in some number of years, perhaps after he's coached elsewhere, and he's "retiring" from coaching, he could rejoin the team in some capacity, but not now. Not that I am advocating that -- just saying, I suspect Jerry wants it and is looking for a way to come up with an excuse to keep him around in an alternate capacity.

That being said, your analysis of him as a football mind is simply not entirely accurate. He has some strengths. And some weaknesses. Again, every coach has narrow-minded arrogance to a certain degree. You cannot cite any multitude of examples that are any more egregious than many other coaches have done.

He's just out of chances with this team as a head coach. He's had enough opportunities, hasn't gotten it done, and it's time to move on.

I've said this for years, but I'd actually be completely fine with Garrett as GM in some weird dual role with McClay. It's not ideal but I sure as shit would trust him to build a roster over Jerry if we're just comparing 1:1 here.

It's not something I want, but probably since at least 2013-ish I've been saying I'd rather have him there if it meant getting him off the sidelines. I think he's much better suited for a detached role where he can take a macro view of things and make long-term decisions after having time to weigh various options/scenarios. I just never thought he was cut out for making the instinctive, hair-trigger decisions in the heat of the moment in NFL games given his ridiculous clock/game management mistakes, especially in the first few years.

Basically, I think he's book smart but lacking in street smarts as far as football goes, although I think the majority of it was just wanting to get the fucker off the sidelines.
I think this is the rational response from people who didn't let their bloodstream get infected with anti Garrett venom years ago.

Again, not saying Garrett remaining with the team in a different capacity is the preferred outcome. Just that you have to remember, Jerry Jones is our official GM, and not only does making him comfortable matter, but also, buffering him further from football decisions matters.

This is what we're gonna get, book it. No splash hire, no hiring Payton out of New Orleans, no Urban Meyer or Lincoln Riley.

We're gonna get a Rooney Rule interview of Richard, a token look at Kellen Moore, and then we are gonna parade back in familiar faces like Zimmer and Campbell who have worked here before.

Of those names I'll take Campbell since he's at least maybe rubbed up against Payton to have a shot at being interesting.

Kubiak, fucking shoot me. I'd stick with Garrett over him.

With the exception of sticking with Garrett I agree with this. Blah hire but cant make the owner walk on eggshells.

Its not that I would want Kubiak because I don't. I just think bringing back Garrett is a waste in any capacity. I think his message is lost and so far out of touch that it would be worse for the team. Change is needed and even if we dont want Kubiak maybe that change works for a short period of time.
