I quit watching the team for about 5 years. The aggravation of watching the same hamster wheel got old. Then I see they've fielded some nice talent and thought I'd pay attention this year.

:lol

I must be some kind of sick masochist.

Meyer is a proven winner, I just worry about his health issues and whether or not he could do this long term.

Health issues aside, he'd be the 2nd best coach Jones has ever hired the second the ink was dry on the contract. There's a lot of pieces in place here and with a few minor roster tweaks he could have this team seriously contending year one. Dan Mullen was Meyer's OC at Florida and Mullen was Prescott's coach at Miss St, Meyer would probably do wonders for Dak, and Elliott of course tore up the NCAA for two years under Meyer, which included those 3 straight 200+ yd games to carry OSU to the title.
Has he ever "proven" he can win in the NFL? Just curious.

Had Jimmy Johnson?

Or let me ask another way. Is Garrett the "proven" winner type in the NFL that makes you think passing on someone like Meyer would be a smart move?

No, you're right. I recall many people believing that Jimmy was a college coach who hadn't won at the pro level. However, JJ was smart enough to stipulate that his contract gave him full control over all football-related matters. Jerry began to chafe under that restriction and we all know the rest of the story.

Virtually anyone would be an improvement over Garrett. But unless Meyer could dictate the terms of his employment, i.e., full control, I think he'd be doomed to the same fate as every Dallas coach since Jimmy.

As long as Jones lets Meyer (or Riley, or whomever) coach the team the way they see fit, it should be fine. Jerry is a bonehead but there is no denying that the drafting and personnel decisions have been better the past 10 years, compared to those Switzer/Gailey/Campo years of just out and out laughable draft and free agency decisions.

This team has a lot of talent. A good coach and staff would probably have this current team 6-0, maybe 5-1 at worst.

Read the definition of fan “Fanatic” then tell me that’s why you root for a loss. You are rationalizing when the very idea of a fan is irrationally structured.
Because sometimes you want the team to lose to get better. Addition by subtraction and all that. I understand you may not subscribe to that theory because you are a little more up there in age and only have so much time left like Jerry does. No offence, but it's the only explanation I have for you not understanding.

Oh I understand completely what you are saying but the debate isn’t with me, it’s with Webster. Anyone can have any emotion about the team that suits their fancy but according to the definition of a “fan” it’s not a fan that would have a wish for a loss, it would be more toward a vindictive attitude. That’s the point I was making.

Tryed to search for it just now but no luck. I'm pretty sure I have it saved on one of my old laptops, I'll try to make time to see if I can find it tomorrow
